Download speed gone down yet again

Our speed has now deteriorated to the point where we barely get 30mbps now. It's getting ridiculous as it has been slowly getting worse and worse. To begin with we were getting 55, then high 40s, then low-mid 40s for the last few years, but now in the past few months it's degraded to low-mid 30s. Plusnet's minimum guaranteed speed is constantly being lowered too, if so how is it a guarantee? I've noticed our noise margin is 8.3 on downstream which is far higher than it has ever been in the past. Could a reset be done on the line?

@sweeep1963 It would be an idea to post the results from: https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL - or  https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome , if you don't have a phone, and your Hubs Help Desk page (Hub1) or Technical Log (Hub2), if you want advice/help from the Community. Your elevated Noise Margin points to a possible fault.

Re: Download speed gone down yet again

@sweeep1963 From that, it looks like you have an impacted (poor) connection, but your Help Desk/Technical Log would tell us more.

Re: Download speed gone down yet again

Unless you are on a SOGEA service, the most pragmatic way forward is to do a Quiet Line Test - dial 17070 option 2.

If you do not have a handset, then borrow one, it could save you hours of frustration.  Otherwise call support and request a line check.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

@awesomejedi It would help if you stayed on your own topic - makes it easier for those trying to help.😉

Re: Download speed gone down yet again

I've been informed that there is no fault apparently, and our minimum guaranteed speed is now 29.2. Pretty outrageous to be honest considering our minimum guaranteed speed was 43 only one year ago...

@sweeep1963 Your Hand Back threshold is 33.5, so I would go back and ask them to check again. As I asked previously, can you post your Help Desk or Technical Log page from your router - depending on which Hub you have - it can provide some useful data, and, as @Townman said, have you done a Quiet Line Test on your phone?

Re: Download speed gone down yet again

My current setup prevents me from seeing the current sync speed, though I can estimate it based on speedtests. The max data rate is around 42mbps, slightly lower from the usual 46-48. I tried a quiet line test, though unsure what to listen out for - all i heard was some very faint buzzing/hissing. On the phone call I had with plusnet I was told there is no fault, but all I'd like at the moment is for the line to be reset to see if that helps at all (it has in the past - see https://community.plus.net/t5/Broadband/Speed-capped-to-39-99/m-p/1933865 ) - especially with the SNR so high at the moment.

Re: Download speed gone down yet again

I'm using the plusnet router in bridge mode acting as a modem, connected to an Edgerouter X, which is connected to a wireless access point. (My previous modem was problematic causing drop outs so tried the plusnet router in this way and it has been fine ever since) The only issue is I do not have access to full modem stats - sync speed is missing, but the rest is visible.
