DLM removal

I understand that BT's DLM can be removed from your line but what are the consquences of doing this?

Re: DLM removal

If that's true where do we start the queue?
You would only see the start as the end would be out of sight. Smiley

Re: DLM removal

It looks like it can be done on other isps. It would be interesting to here from PN if the would do this and what benefits it might bring to different users.

Re: DLM removal

From http://broadbandadvice.org.uk/Website/Special%20Articles/TT_DLM.htm it seems TT have their own DLM for their LLU products. Could the link provided by Old Jim refer to that and not BT?
Haven't looked up Sky yet.
No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

Re: DLM removal

Hi glloyd,
The trial we have is sort of no DLM but you still get an IP profile depending on your sync rate. It basically means that your line cannot be banded no matter how many times it disconnects. I'll have a look and see if we can get you on it if you like?

Re: DLM removal

Thanks JoJo. I have a feeling my connection is banded it always syncs at the same speed.

Re: DLM removal

Hi JoJo
would the banding from pn be above the EU normal sync rate so they would get the full non dlm speed or woud it be below as it is on current dlm?
I can sync at over 7000, thanks to your help a few weeks ago but banding keeps me to 6000. in the dlm was removed would I still be on 6000 or 7000 for my new line rate.

Re: DLM removal

Removal of DLM, or rather customising is so the line never reaches an "Indicative Line Quality" of RED (which causes a change of SNR target, or application of a sync band), can be changed like we do with interleaving.
The BRAS profile process still applies though.
Podman, in your case you would see no change, as the BRAS profile is based around sync events, so we will be seeing sync events periodically of a value between and including 6186kbps and 7391kbps. Just because your line sees sync events above 7000, doesn't mean a 6500 profile applies. It needs to remain above 7391kbps but mainly below 7968kbps to receive 6500kbps profile.

Re: DLM removal

HI glloyd,
I've just been running some checks on your line and you are banded between 7168Kbps - 14336Kbps and are currently syncing at 14335k. With attenuation of 31.3dB if I were to lift that banding you'd probably only get about another 200k sync. So while the line is steady I'd say leave it as it is.

Is DLM more conservative than it used to be? In the past I had a 6dB SNR target margin but had been stuck over 12 for several months, so Plusnet kindly tried resetting the line. The stabilisation period demonstrated that the line and modem were still capable of excellent performance, however, after 8 days syncing around 7 to 8Mbps with a 6dB margin, the target seemed to be kicked up first to 9 then 12 in the space of 4 hours.
Given the performance shown on the graph below, is it reasonable to expect to have a 6dB target margin? If so, why did DLM kick in after 8 days and increase it to 12?
