Current USO Options

My sister was asking me about Netflix and I asked her to check her sync speed. Download is only 3 (three) Mbs !

She is with PN on ADSL. Can one assume that just about everywhere now has a FTTC option?

Does USO apply or to BT only nowadays?

Tricky situation!

Re: Current USO Options

What does BT Broadband say for her phone number? No idea about USO, sorry.

Re: Current USO Options

She must be a way away from her cab then, that's a lot of copper. 😞

@TeeGee

Still not a great speed. Have a look at the following to see if there are any OR plans for the area.

https://www.openreach.com/

Are there any alternative suppliers operating (or planning to do so) in the area.

@bmc

It is a country village in a bit of a backwater (MRCHL) but I think better broadband is going to new (un)affordable homes.

OR information is conflicting and the best one can hope for is FTTC from a cabinet some distance away.

According to Samknows website there are no other providers.

Will report back after she has contacted PN directly.

Another thought is to have a look at their PlusNet Portal. If you look at upgrade options it should tell you what speed PN think they can provide.

Re: Current USO Options

I will now conclude with thanks for suggestions and in particular thanks to PN support. My sister did phone in and was received with friendly help over such a slow speed. She was put onto FTTC and a new router dispatched immediately. It is a long line to the cabinet ( no fault of PN)  but her speed will improve by a factor of 5.  Well, she can afford Netflix.....!

As a suggestion I am sure PN know who is on below USO speeds and could check at contract renewal time if there is a better option.  It is good to know that PN support is there when you need and ask for it!
