Can anyone explain this?

My profile is 17000. If I have 2 files to download, I get a total throughput of 2 MB/s if I bring then in at the same time. But, if I only have 1 file to download, regardless of where it's coming from, my throughput never rises above 1.25 MB/s. It's been like this for several months now and I can't explain it. Can anyone offer an explanation as to why it should be like this?

Could this be something to do with the speed restrictions Plusnet applies? https://www.plus.net/support/broadband/speed_guide/download_speeds.shtml

Where are you downloading these files from?  Many sites limit the speed at which you can pull data from them, that might be the answer.

No mate, otherwise I wouldn't get 2 MB/s when I downloaded more than one file.

It could be http, filesharing or just files from my own server. I should just be getting whatever is my current line speed for a single file and not just when I download two or more.
Thanks for the suggestions though.

Re: Can anyone explain this?

I bring this up from time to time just to see if anyone can shed some light on it.
It makes no sense but there it is. I stopped wanting PN to look into it ages ago as nobody has any idea why this should be.
It's not my equipment or software, and it's not the OS or router getting in the way. It's not terrible, but it does mean that I'm clearly able to download at 2 MB/s, but when there's just one file involved it's only going to be 1.2-1.3 MB/s. Just have to be a little more patient.
