Re: Broadband speed now below minimum

Interestingly, testing your line is showing "Impairment in copper joint detected most likely close to customer premises. Please continue to submit a trouble report". Maybe not just a Wi-Fi issue after all.

Is your router plugged into the master telephone socket with no extension cabling between the router and the socket?

Re: Broadband speed now below minimum

@Gandalf

Hi, yes the router is plugged into Master Socket, no extensions or other cabling.

I have re-run the Troubleshooter and recorded there is a potential issue with the connection box adjacent to where the drop wire arrives at the house - it's lid is open to the elements and maybe trapping water. Hopefully. that's it.

I'm not available on Monday next, but free all week after that in case a visit is needed.

Re: Broadband speed now below minimum

Hi @JRT

Yeah that could be it.

I've picked up the raised ticket 228745635 and I've arranged an engineer visit for Tuesday 1st November 8am to 1pm.

The appointment's not yet confirmed in the supplier systems, so I'll check back tomorrow.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Re: Broadband speed now below minimum

Fix

@Gandalf

I think we’re there!  Engineer arrived promptly just after 8:00 am, reviewed and remade joints etc, left just on 10:30 am. Sync speed is now 62 Mbps and hopefully stable.  I'll call this one fixed, subject to a bit of watch and wait!

All the best with new role and many thanks for your assistance here.  That goes for the other guys too.

Re: Broadband speed now below minimum

Final post on this issue:  my line has been stable for the last five days with a sync speed at 62 Mbps. I’m a bit disappointed I didn’t get 72 Mbps back but at least it’s stable and working properly.  The Engineer remarked there was one copper joint which was not accessible, it’s actually under the main road a few yards away.  It could be this caused the speed drop initially, but no-one would be willing to close the traffic just for a look with no fault evident!

I propose to leave the Hub One in place for now, hoping that the line just might re-train and bring back a bit more speed.  I understand the engineers are not allowed to reset the line after a fix so here’s hoping the DLM will shine upon me.

Many thanks to all involved here and here’s to the advent of Full Fibre before too long.
