Broadband speed crashes again

Note the dates

This is ridiculous, I go from superfast broadband to nothing like broadband seemingly at the flick of switch, this is the 3rd such slow down I've suffered, the previous 2 slowdowns have last, the first a day or so, the second a week, how long this time?  The slow downs dont seem related to anything I can see, certainly not time of day, or day of week.
I did run the Plusnet speedtest a few days back and notice it said the maximum speed I would get was around 4Mbs which given at the time I was a lot faster I just presumed was an error, but perhaps it was seeing whatever this is creeping up on me?
Anyone see anything below that seems of interest?

I spoke to support, the first thing they said they would do is lift the upload speed cap and then I should wait until Saturday to see if that made a difference.  Hmmmm, I'm a long way from an expert on ADSL matters, but I'm not at all sure that's where I would have started.

Re: Broadband speed crashes again

Mine has just crashed
Bt speedtest gives 3762kbps but all other tests give 100kbps or less
You tube manages a maximum of about 200kbps

Re: Broadband speed crashes again

Update - my problem seemed to start when Plusnet disconnected the session to change the local profile.
Just disconnected and reconnected (not a resync) and it is back to normal

Re: Broadband speed crashes again

Same apparent problem.
Same apparent cure.
I'm still deeply "Hmmmmm" but that's perhaps because I don't really understand how this all works.

Planned Traffic Management Platform Maintenance -Friday 4th February 2.00am-5.00am
Broadband
Posted on: Thursday 3 February 2011, 14:15
What does it affect?
Broadband traffic management.
How long will it take?
About three hours.
What does the work involve?
We are performing some essential maintenance to our traffic management platform to rectify recent problems with usage aggregation.
Am I likely to notice the work?
You shouldn't do. If you're trying to establish a new connection or reconnect during this time you will be assigned a default traffic management profile. This should not affect any speeds as there are no restrictions at this time of the morning. Once the system is back up and running customers should automatically re-authenticate on their correct profile.
Is there anything else I need to know?
No.
Kind Regards,
Joanne Pilson,
Customer Support.

Re: Broadband speed crashes again

Well I had a brief power outage around 12 noon today, so reconnected then, but until I manually disconnected and reconnected as above, nothing else of note happened, except during the day I noticed that when I started to watch an iPlayer problem it struggled for the first few minutes but was then OK.

Re: Broadband speed crashes again

If you check the router log does it show a loss of PPP session
This is mine - the one at 17:45 was the Plusnet profile being changed and the second as 19.37 was me

Re: Broadband speed crashes again

Hi all,
Our network team are investigating the cause of these issues, I've asked one of my team to do some additional dial-testing from here so we can try to replicate the issue.

Re: Broadband speed crashes again

I've had no problems with speed until this morning when i tried to download a 19mb file and it said it would take 28 minutes ( brought back memories of dial up ) I've run a few speed tests today and get between 120 and 150kbps downspeeds which is way low. My up speed is around 370 kbps which is normal. I find that strange. I just looked up service status on plusnet website and it seems they realise there is a problem with speeds and they are looking into it.
