Broadband connection issues

AdSL Broadband-only line wired into Telewest socket not even the master socket getting a 3.6dB upload margin and poor signal confirmed by plusnet over the phone but they cant identify issue i keep telling them i believe it is because my connection is crosswired into a old telewest faceplate that isnt even the master socket my connection speed is good , Plusnet refusing Openreach visit to give me a open reach NTE5 master socket instead gave me a replacement router which i recieved today but i have left it on for a few hours and the noise margin is exactly the same and i am still experiencing the same connetion issues because of interference on the line alot of stuttering and freezing and buffering on all devices whether only 1 is connected or more please help.

@ilyas   Welcome to the Plusnet Community Fora.

I'm afraid that all that you can do is ring Plusnet and report that the problem hasn't been fixed.

@ilyas

Are you aware that the ADSL service is ending in the very near future and that you will either have to give up your landline phone and transfer to Full Fibre or SoGEA with Plusnet, or move ISP?

This might be an opportune time to start the move.

Re: Broadband connection issues

Something doesn't seem right here. BT would (or should) not use a Telewest socket for a connection to their network. How long has it been in place, and do you have a BT socket, @ilyas ?

Re: Broadband connection issues

I suspect the Telewest socket has been reused as an extension or something.

Telewest dates it a bit.

An Openreach engineer visit may identify "in home" issues and have a cost.

A bit more investigation is probably justified before the engineer comes out.

Re: Broadband connection issues

@markhawkin If it has been used as 'an extension or something', there must be a BT/OR master socket somewhere - IIRC, the technology is different?

Re: Broadband connection issues

It's a long time since I've seen a Telewest branded phone socket but the cable companies used to typically provide a "conventional" phone line.

Yes, somewhere you would hope there is an Openreach master socket but having played the "hunt the master socket" game a few times in older houses nothing would surprise me.

Re: Broadband connection issues

No bt socket only telewest sockets one master and another a faceplate. the master socket is extremely dusty and old so they used the faceplate my noise margin issue has been sorted out though immediate improvement on my connection the issue was the DLM was bugged so they manually reset and put the correct numbers for my profile.

@ilyas  what are your plans to get off ADSL before your service is disconnected and your Plusnet account closed ?

As of today you only have 87 working weekdays before Openreach discontinue all ADSL on 31st January 2027,

ideally you should get your connection sorted out before December 2026 which is only 49 working days away.

What broadband upgrade alternatives are available to you ?

Do you still use your landline telephone ?

Do you use your Plusnet email address ?,  and if so, has it been migrated to Greenby yet ?

.

@ilyas

What does that mean ?

  -  Have you placed an order for full fibre and are waiting for Openreach to install it ?

or

  -  Openreach haven't installed any full fibre in your neighbourhood, and you're not doing anything until they do ?

Re: Broadband connection issues

@ilyas

Is SoGEA available to you ?  BT Broadband Availability Checker

Have you checked for 'fixed wireless' provider coverage ?

Have you considered Starlink ?

As a worst case scenario, you could move to A&A SoADSL until full fibre becomes available.

Don't wait until you get the 28 day notice from Plusnet to cease your service, as install lead times are often longer than that !

Re: Broadband connection issues

A Telewest telephone socket often goes with a Telewest cable service,
now known as Virgin Media, which if available would offer internet speeds up to 1130/104 Mbps.
