If this gives a reasonably higher speed it might be worth checking your internal wiring.
I assume you are into gaming hence the fast path

I do play a lot of games, but also download a lot, and would prefer downloads were faster than pings, so is interleved a better chose? Cheers Rob

I suspect, but don't know for certain, that going to interleaved may allow the BT automated systems to drop the default noise margin. However this would really mess up your pings.
Regarding downloading, if you aren't on the pro package, you are unlikely to get better speeds from the usual download sites.See this table for your product http://www.kitz.co.uk/isp/plusnet_shaping2.htm

Your DSL connection rate: 4096 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 3000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 907 kbps

In addition the fact that your IPprofile is only 3000kbps indicates that your router lost sync recently and resynched at between 3500 - 3999 kbps which is not good.
I think we need to do a bit more investigating.
First question is which router do you have
Second can you describe your internal wiring and advise where and how your router is normally connected

Regarding the dir-655 I assume this is only used for the network round your house and the Linksys provides the ADSL input.
What do you mean by an ADSL v1 plate
Are there any extension sockets in the property even if they are not in use

It sits on the master socket and acts as a filter. There are serverl extentions in the house 4 with phones/sky boxs on and a few wires that seem to have been cust at some point which used to go to extensions. Thanks R Magee

If you look at the inside of the faceplate how many terminals have wires attached - there should only be two
It might be worth considering a new faceplate from ADSLNation http://www.adslnation.com/products/xte2005.php as the original BT one may have deteriorated with age.

Are there 3 or 6 IDC connection points - this will give an indication of it's age
Once you are down to 2 wires you should go round all the other telephone points and only have the same 2 connected
Despite the fact that it shouldn't be necessary some people do recommend adding a filter to the Sky boxes as well.
