Re: Wireless issues with Thomson v8 (after firmware upgrade) Updated.

Hello,
I am a new customer and have not even been activated yet but have received my new plusnet Thompson router in the post today. I decided to do a bit of review searching and saw some very positive reviews and also some negative reviews to be expected on this router. This all eventually led me to this forum and website and I have just spent the last hour or so reading through most of the posts here on this thread and not being very computer literate got very scared and worried to say the least.
Now my router supplied by plusnet is TG585 v8 and I was wondering if this already has the latest version of the firmware pre-installed or will I have to go through this flash installation of the newest firmware upgrade like most of the people on this forum.
Probably a little too early to comment about this I suppose having not been activated yet but any feedback would be appreciated and would also set my mind at rest.
Thank you.

Re: Wireless issues with Thomson v8 (after firmware upgrade) Updated.

Hello Zaldemon.
Just a data point for you:
I too am a new customer and received a new Thomson router a couple of weeks ago. It had the previous (8.2.7.7) version of the firmware, and I found it had issues with holding a home network (mostly PCs) together. Joanne advised me to upgrade to 8.2.7.8 and it does seem to have helped a lot.
I'm not sure I've been around long enough to be allowed to say this, but welcome to the forums!

Hi Zaldemon,
you will have to upgrade the firmware once you have the router. I'm sorry for the inconvenience with that but if you need any help we're always here. (although in saying that there are plenty of people who must be functioning fine without the upgrade)
@saguaro, you're welcome to welcome. A nice touch, thanks.

Re: Wireless issues with Thomson v8 (after firmware upgrade) Updated.

Cry Gutted !
Thought my router already had the upgraded firmware due to it being TG585 v8
Not happy...why was it not shipped with the firmware already installed ?
Anyway hope I can do the update...I am simply a casual gamer not computer programmer, network engineer or tech support specialist which judging from reading these forums and this thread in particular you need to be quite savvy and technical.
Wish I had been told would have gone with SKY or BT instead.....Customers just should not have to mess about like this....simple as that.
Thanks for the reply though at least I know what to expect.
Regards.

Re: Wireless issues with Thomson v8 (after firmware upgrade) Updated.

This post has been open for about a month now,can I enquire as to whether a solution is anywhere in sight.
I joined PNet a little over a month ago and received a Thompson 585v8 ,I carried out the firmware update.
As I like others was having wireless connection problems ,initially I noticed no change after the firmware update. But then out the blue wireless upload speed became normal ,now also out the blue my wireless upload is poor in the extreme.
I wonder how much longer this likely to go on? Should I just ditch this router as for what ever reason it or something is not as it should be.

Re: Wireless issues with Thomson v8 (after firmware upgrade) Updated.

Have you tried my suggestion to install inSSIDer to check for any channel conflicts.
I've used 585v8 for quite a while and not had any problems - it's better ventilated than 585v7 so doesn't overheat.

Hi Zaldemon,
I'm sure you'll be ok doing it by yourself but if you can't or find it too daunting we can do it remotely for you once you're connected.
@anniesboy, the trouble we're having getting any further is that we're actually unable to replicate that issue but I'm constantly bugging people for a resolution. I can assure you.

Jojo,thanks for your reply.
I find it really odd that my wireless upload was OK for a while ,only to fall away again.

Re: Wireless issues with Thomson v8 (after firmware upgrade) Updated.

HI all,
Would you guys who are suffering with the slow upload do me a favour please? Could you post the make and model of your wireless adapter. If there was a pattern, this would mean that we may be able to get a machine with the same so we can replicate it.

Hi trudderz,
Have you upgraded the firmware on the router? See my first post in this thread about that.

Re: Wireless issues with Thomson v8 (after firmware upgrade) Updated.

Hiya Jojo,
Yes I upgraded the router to version 8.2.7.8 last week, it failed on first attempt, saying the router did not respond, however I tried again and seemed to complete the upgrade fine.  Smiley
