Line Attenuation and Broadband Speed

Hi,
I was just wondering if it was somewhat possible to migrate to a nearer telephone exchange?
It's just that I can only receive a line of 1.5Mbps, and I'm paying a fortune for a little speed.
I am 3.01km straight line distance from my nearest exchange, and I cannot receive cable, ADSL 2+ is set to be enabled in Q1 2009.
Router Statistics are as follows:
ADSL Link            Downstream  Upstream
Connection Speed 2240 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation     63 db       15.5 db
Noise Margin                 7 db         14 db
So with the length of my line, what speeds should I be expecting? (I have taken the BT line test, and it showed 1.5Mbps). But that result seems too poor to be true!
So; is it possible to migrate to a nearer telephone exchange, or request maintenance on my phone lines?
Thanks in advance,
Andy

BT will not rewire your connection to a different exchange.

Alright thanks for swift replies... Guess I'm just stuck with it  :-\.
On a side note: Will Adsl 2+ make any difference for me when it is installed at my exchange, and i choose the corresponding package when available?

Unless things have changed - not a great deal

Re: Line Attenuation and Broadband Speed

Given your very long line (63dB), very unlikely to make any difference. ADSL2+ only benefits those less than 5KM from the exchange, above that it makes no difference as your signal strength is too low.

Andy - To be fair, your sync rates are actually really good considering how long your line is.

Re: Line Attenuation and Broadband Speed

I share your predicament, have similar line figures, and get 725Kbps on the last test. Think yourself lucky to get the speeds you do!

Re: Line Attenuation and Broadband Speed

I shouldn't have to consider myself blessed to get the sub-standard speeds I receive considering BT's average annual profit.
I supposed I have what I have, it isn't going to change, and if it does BT will set a date for like 2015  Undecided

Re: Line Attenuation and Broadband Speed

Hi Andy,
Sorry, I wasn't meaning to make it sound like you were fortunate, more that it could be considerably worse than it currently is!
Realistically, the implementation of wBC and 21CN isn't going to give you much of an improvement sadly.
