Connection rate / Ip profile low

Hi,
For the last week my connection speed has dropped through the floor and my download speeds are a fraction of what they where. Tried to download a 700mb file last night but at only 25kb/sec it would have taken 10 hours, previously it would have taken 20 mins ha ha. I cannot even play Starcraft 2 anymore, when there is lots going on it lags up to much.
My connection has never been great, my line attenuation averages at 6-7db, which is god awful (I have been looking at rigging up a duel WAN router with my mobile phone just so I don't drop out of games at bad times), not so surprisingly it does drop the connection every now and then, but when it is connected it has always been pretty speedy. Fast enough to play games with no lag and view web pages at the same time or download files at a fair rate of about 700kb/sec.
Well anyway I have read other posts and have an idea of what you guys migh ask for. I have collected some readings over the last 3 days.

I hope you guys can shed some light on this annoying dilema. It is like being in the 90s again with the slow ass speed, oh but without that terrible band Ace of base, which is lucky, that would be the nail in the coffin =p

Re: Connection rate / Ip profile low

Hi magnette,
It looks like there might be a fault with the local loop, so the first thing you need to do is raise a fault so we can escalate this further for you. You can do this at http://faults.plus.net

Hi magnette
Nice one, I'll keep an eye on things and see how it goes. It can be 48-72 hours for an update though.

Re: Connection rate / Ip profile low

Ok looks like you where right Jojo, there was a problem with the local connection, a corroded junction box terminal. We had a BT engineer come out today to fix the problem and test the line. Connection to the exchange is A-Ok (500 ohms across both twisted pairs if that means anything to you).
Download rates are still very low but I guess that's becuase my IP Profile or whatever it is still thinks the line is duff.
Here are the test results for today
==============================
Download speedachieved during the test was - 206 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-250 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :6624 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 250 Kbps
Telephone number:
   01243######
Phone exchange:
   MIDDLETON ON SEA
Estimated line speed:
   5 - Checked on 2010-06-07 16:52:40
Current line speed:
   350
router connection stats
                                      downstream upstream
Connection Speed 6624 kbps 448
Line Attenuation        30 db 8
Line Attenuation       12 db 25
Notice my router has a connection speed much higher now. I shall give it a few days and hopefully the machine on your end will bump up my connection.

Re: Connection rate / Ip profile low

Hi magnette,
I've just ran a line test and the Ip profile has not lifted yet. I will check later for you though and lift it at our end if necessary. Watch this space!

Re: Connection rate / Ip profile low

Hi magnette,
I've just matched our profile to the 5500 so if you disconnect/reconnect in the router you'll see the increase.
