PHP doesn't work & using PHP with domain name?

Firstly. I am a senior software architect, so I'm technical, but I'm exclusively a Microsoft developer, so PHP & Unix is a little out of my zone, so please be gentle if I dont make sense, or have missed the point completely!
I've FTP'd a PHP site onto my normal webspace, but when I click on it in IE, it just tries to download the file.
If I was using IIS, I would assume I hadn't installed the component, or registered the file extension, so the server doesn't know what to do with it.
So, there's this ccgi.username.plus.com, but I cannot connect to it via FTP (timeout), IE reports a 403 (forbidden).
But, obviously, I have a domain name, so I want the PHP page to be www.mydomainname.com/myphppage.php
I dont understand what I've missed off, I just want it to work!!
I phoned (and raised a ticket) with support, but 24 hours later, no response, and the phone call said they dont support webspace over the phone (and to be honest, understood less about it all than me).
So, please can anyone help me get to grips with non-MS website
...or even better, could plus.net offer asp.net web hosting Wink
Tom
(BTW: I have already activated mySQL and CCGI in Members Area)
