poor broadband speed

hi, just thought i'd post on here before raising an official ticket..
the past couple of days, i've been suffering from slow page loads, you tube not working and when trying to watch something on BBC iplayer it failed saying 'insufficient bandwidth'
speedtest.net gave the following results;
http://www.speedtest.net/result/823872553.png
its supposed to be up to 8meg!
nothing has changed on my cabling - could it be heat related?
I have restarted my router, but that hasn't made any difference
any ideas?
thanks

Re: poor broadband speed

Welcome to the forums Smiley
Yep that doesn't look good.
Can you run a bt speedtest here and post the results and also get the stats from your router and post those please (hints on how to get them here)
Should help give people some understanding of what is going on.

Re: poor broadband speed

Hi dawson,
I have to say that all looks fine to me - are you seeing similar throughput from other tests now as well?

Re: poor broadband speed

thanks for looking in Matt - i have just run the test again, and got a similar result to what I had this morning.
It looks ok now - don't know what it was, but I haven't done anything at my end to cure it.
If i get any more issues, i'll post again.
thanks.

Re: poor broadband speed

Hi, a quick look into your account suggests that your speed has been restricted due to Broadband Plus up to 8Mb peak usage allowance.
Click Here for more details about your current package.
Hope this helps, btw your usage allowance will be reset on your billing date which is very soon as well.

Re: poor broadband speed

Embarrassed  That hadn't occurred to me at all! - thanks for that - it certainly explains why it is quicker this morning (outside of the 4pm to midnight period) - I was on an older contract where there is a 4gb limit on the 4pm to midnight period.
I've just changed to a different plusnet product that looks like i'll get a greater allowance, which should resolve the issue.
cheers

Re: poor broadband speed

Don't forget that account changes are only implemented on your billing date.
