VPN Problems

Does anyone know if there are any know issues with routing to the US?
My wife works from home and needs to VPN into her company's network (which is in the USA).  However, the VPN continually drops (9-10 times an hour).
She's been on the phone to her colleagues who are connecting via other ISPs and they haven't had any issues.
This is the only problem - the connection to "the internet" is otherwise OK.
I realise that this is probably outwith PN's control as it may be outwith their network but just wondered if anyone else was having problems or if there were known issues.
I'm not at home just now so can't do any tracerts etc.

Re: VPN Problems

Hi Paul,
There's been no known issues that we're aware of.
Might be an idea to suggest trying to reboot the router and see if this leads to an improvement in service.

Re: VPN Problems

OK James, will do.
She's going to try to get in touch with the IT folks at the US office to see if there's something up at their end but they're not in till 2pm our time.  The office in Scotland doesn't have any local IT support and, as her PC is owned by her work, I'm not allowed to check anything without the go-ahead from their IT dept.!

Re: VPN Problems

I'm not having VPN problems - either VPN to our UK office or hopping over to the US.
That's using the Cisco VPN client

@SteveA
That's what I was hoping - just trying to rule out the ISP and/or routing problems.
A reboot of the router and PC seems to have done the trick for now.

Re: VPN Problems

I had no end of problems with my VPN into the office with my previous provider (NTHell) but it's been mostly stable since - a fixed IP address makes a huge difference. We are using Sonic Wall.
Are you using a software VPN or does the ISDN Router play a part?

Never heard of a broken IP address before...what did you fix it with?

Re: VPN Problems

I've been on VPN although admittedly only within the UK for most of the day, with no drop-outs at all.
By the way, I'd guessed the Scottish connection before you mentioned it.  It was use of the wonderful word "outwith" to mean "outside".  I've only ever heard it used by Scots friends before. Cheesy

Re: VPN Problems

We've got a static IP and a software client provided by her company.
The VPN has been stable since the reboot.
Her IT department will keep an eye on things though.

Re: VPN Problems

I use VPN to connect to the work network most evenings and it's always been fine. My router does though need a regular reboot as it does have a tendancy to slow down if I leave it on for weeks on end.

Re: VPN Problems

I'll need to make a point of doing a regular reboot of the router - it's normally just left on all the time.
