My speed has dropped

Hi all
up untill 2 weeks ago i was getting close to my 2meg speeds and was able to download at 230kbps....Now it is down to about 170 kbps at best. Here are my router details
DSL Type: G.992.1 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 2,048
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 3.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 16.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 31.5 / 53.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 22.0 / 16.0
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / TSTC
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 6
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 3
Can anyone see if there is a problem here
thx for any help.

Re: My speed has dropped

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
Download  Speed
1341 Kbps

0 Kbps 2000 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 1341 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-2000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :0 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1500 Kbps

here is some more info....is this telling me that I am now only able to get 1.5 meg?

Re: My speed has dropped

You need to check what it says for "current line speed" in the member centre here. That should be 1500kbps matching the BT IP profile but it looks like you might have had a lower value at the time of your first post, which would be restricting your download speed.
You won't get 1500kbps download speed on speed tests because of the effects of communication management overheads. 750 - 1000kbps would be normal.

Re: My speed has dropped

this is what it says
Telephone number:01283-----------
Phone exchange:TUTBURY
Estimated line speed:1.0 -
Checked on 2010-05-26 15:22:40
Current line speed:1500

so I guess it is ok......but how does that explain me getting 230/250 download speeds a few weeks ago?

Re: My speed has dropped

It doesn't explain the previous occurrence of low speeds. It does confirm the BT IP Profile and PN Profile (current line speed) are matched. In fact if that sync speed (2048kbps) is maintained for 5 days both profiles should increase to 1750kbps.
It's pure crystal ball gazing but I suspect you had a low sync speed event (circa 750kbps) a couple of weeks ago which reduced your IP Profile to 500kbps and that would give the lower speeds. Since then your connection has recovered, but (again pure speculation) the problem might have caused your target noise margin to increase so the best speed you achieve will be lower than it was. If your connection is shown to be stable with few transmission errors the target noise margin might reduce again.

Re: My speed has dropped

Hi Griff7520,
Your BT profile has gone up to 1750 so I've manually brought ours up to match it.
@spraxyt, I think you do have a crystal ball Wink
