Re: My Broadband = 2MB, Flat below = 6.5MB? Help please!

Yes i've tried many filters, many different routers and also
connected everything to the main BT socket.
Plus nothings changed in the flat in the last 5 months, yet 5 months ago I had 8MB!
Cheers Jameseh.

Re: My Broadband = 2MB, Flat below = 6.5MB? Help please!

Strange you should say that because over the last 5 months I've seen my line synchronisation speed slowly drop from 7.3Mbps to 6.4Mbps  Huh

Re: My Broadband = 2MB, Flat below = 6.5MB? Help please!

Jameseh: I'm now trying my Netgear DG834G router and getting these stats:
ADSL Link - Downstream  Upstream
Connection Speed - 2656 kbps  448 kbps
Line Attenuation - 32 db  15.5 db
Noise Margin - 12 db  12 db
Do they suggest the attenuation problem is fixed? The noise margin shows better on this router too, odd.
I've upgraded to BBYW Pro by the way, still getting the same pings, but less usage then my old package. 😕

Hi Fransorci,
Do you notice any sync speed fluctuation when doing a few reboots? My sync speed seems to fluctuate between 5-7Mbps (sorry to rub it in!) and I was just wondering if you noticed similar fluctuations on your line.
The changes from 6-->12dB shouldn't be enough to force your sync speed down that low.

Yes it does fluctuate -
Only between 2600kbps and 3200kbps though.

Thanks.
BTs DLM system is supposed to intelligently adapt to improvements in the line.  I suspect that your old router had a fault, given the upstream attenuation figures.  Can you bear with it for a couple of days and see if you notice a reduction in the noise margin?  If not, I can raise a separate fault to BT.

Re: My Broadband = 2MB, Flat below = 6.5MB? Help please!

I can but interestingly the router just disconnected, and when I rebooted it it connected as this:
ADSL Link - Downstream            Upstream
Connection Speed - 5888 kbps  448 kbps
Line Attenuation - 21 db            5.5 db
Noise Margin - 11 db                  24 db
Guessing that's the higher attenuation you talked about!
HOWEVER, it's still only downloading at 240kb max,
from lots of tests and servers Sad
Fran.

It will be.  don't reboot it for a couple of days and your profiled speed should increase within the next 2-3 days.
Definitely sounds promising!

Re: My Broadband = 2MB, Flat below = 6.5MB? Help please!

It disconnected 8 minutes later and went back to:
ADSL Link Downstream              Upstream
Connection Speed 3648 kbps    448 kbps
Line Attenuation 32 db              15.5 db
Noise Margin 10 db                    12 db
Odd!

Yes! Smiley
Keep an eye on it and see what sort of sync speed fluctuations you get.

Re: My Broadband = 2MB, Flat below = 6.5MB? Help please!

May have already been mentioned, i didn't read every response, but that screen shot of the download says kBytes not kbits.
There are 8(b)its in a (B)yte.
873kBps x 8 = 6,984 kbps
So you have 6.9mbps, hell call it 7mbps it's close enough Tongue

Re: My Broadband = 2MB, Flat below = 6.5MB? Help please!

Jameseh - can the sync speed change without the router actually disconnecting?Huh
My router is saying it's been connected for 4 hours, but it was at 3232kbps last time I checked, now it's at 2976kbps?
I thought it couldn't...

That's strange.  Your sync speed shouldn't be able to change without an actual drop in synchronisation.
I've had a look at our RADIUS logs and you've been logged in for the last 4 hours Huh

Re: My Broadband = 2MB, Flat below = 6.5MB? Help please!

Very odd... was watching the router stats...
The noise margin (DS) started going down, went to 0db.
Then when back to about 11db but sync speed was 2976 instead of 3232 😕
All this time I was still surfing!
