Lower speed under Plusnet?

I was enjoying speeds on average of 3 meg  and for long periods was nudging 4 meg with BT and during the training period here it started low then settled at a steady 2.35 meg now after the 10 day period it has dropped to under 2meg which is a bit on the slow side I don't understand why it should have dropped when it was a rock stead 2.35 if anything it should have been allowed to increase not decrease.
i can not see the stats on BT sppedtester as I have said in another thread that my number is no longer recognised by BT on that speed test site

Hi galaxy66,
There's lots of errors on the line at the moment, can you try plugging into the test socket?

Re: Lower speed under Plusnet?

What a pleasure this is not having to deal with BT and enjoying such a personal service :).
Test socket...you will have to explain to me  where I can find that Jo Smiley have I one on the router or the BT  ADSL V10 socket?

Re: Lower speed under Plusnet?

You would remove the lower half - which in your case is the bit with the filter included and use an external filter

Cheers Jim, did that, not sure what the next step was to be or what it proves but nothing is any better or worse.

Re: Lower speed under Plusnet?

Leave the router connected there and see if the errors drop
If you post the full stats from the router tomorrow we should have an idea if things have improved

Cheers Jim...I have plugged it back in the test socket Smiley
As you have guessed by now I am not too  well up on the technical side but have a basic knowledge of how it all works, now where is a link explaining how I find the stats from the router Smiley

Re: Lower speed under Plusnet?

Assuming you are using a Thomson TG587 that is correct. And this link takes you to the page that gives your stats (copy and paste from Uptime to the end of the HEC Errors line).

Re: Lower speed under Plusnet?

Sorry for not getting back sooner here are the stats (not that they mean anything to me :))
In the meantime I can confirm that the speed did improve and were showing as 3 meg plus but currently under 3 but a lot better than under 2 meg so hoping it stays above that. Smiley
