The only difference I can see Is that firefox is using different fonts, or am I missing something else?

Jim - I think it depends on what you have set as the default font in the browser (FF3; Tools - Options - Content). I have mine set to Times New Roman in Firefox and the login page looks like your IE7 screenshot.

Thanks for the help - I have now set IE to use Arial and Consolas so it no longer has that stupid Times New Roman and equivalents

I've always hated Times New Roman.  Arial looks so much nicer.
