I have a playstation 3 and will be upgrading my connection nearer christmas when some decent online games come out e.g. Half Life 2.  Has anyone had problems with online gaming with the ps3 such as lag or connection problems using plusnet so far?

or lack of anyone else with a Playstaion3 to play against.

It has to be the ultimate embarrassment to a console manufacturer, not to have a supply shortage at launch, and even shops offering a discount.

From what I have seen it looks are fantastic console, WoW the detail in the graphics, make it almost life like, in HD on a good plasma / TFT.

But just Too expensive for the main stream.

Yeah, well you'd have to be a fairly hard core gamer to want to splash out that much cash on one (which I'm not). It's nice to have HD when you've got a TV equipped with it. But I'll wait for consoles, HD-DVD, Blu Ray et al to come down in price first.

I mean you could buy a new laptop for less than that - and I know what I'd rather have.

Of course you've got the younger audience, and that is a lot of cash for a parent to fork out.

Anyway getting a bit OT as we're now talking about lack of demand rather than problems with PlusNet - tut tut Chilly you started it Smiley

I am sure a fellow owner would be able to help?

Been online with the PS3 now for about a month. Mostly on COD3 and motorstorm. Resistance is full of super human gamers who can hit you between the eyes from a distance of many, many miles within seconds of respawning. Seriously hard that one.

Gaming though. Cant say I have had many problems with either COD3 or Motorstorm. Sometimes when you are waiting to join a game in COD3 it will tell you that there is a problem connecting to all the players but this is not all the time and on no occasion have I been unable to join in, eventually. Motorstorm is pretty bullet-proof and will always let you in. Unfortunately on a few occasions the system has crashed but not really enough times to be a problem.

There is always somebody on line and to be honest as time passes this is just going to increase as more and more people get the console.

Have had no problems with lag and would say that I am generally really very happy with the system and Plus net as a provider,

Brill - Thanks for the info people.  I will def be upgrading my connection and look forward to some ps3 online gaming later in the year.

P.S. I think ps3 is much better value than a laptop around the same price as you're getting a state of the art processor which is prob worth around 300, a blue ray drive which is also worth around 300, a state of the art graphics chip plus the ps3's gonna keep you going for 10 years or so without having to worry about upgrading all the time to play the latest games.  And a really big bonus is that its less likely to crash.

To get the equivalent spec for a pc you are looking at around 1000+

Got PS3 the day it launched, Motorstorm and R:FoM, I only play on line (more fun).  All I can say is I look tired most days Wink Also enabled the OtherOS feature (used Yellowdog Linux Distro) and have a few Blu-Ray discs plus use on line rental with Tesco for some top viewing on the 40" LCD

Also had no problems playing any PS2 games. Its a top buy and I would recommend if Sony did a referral scheme like Plusnet Smiley

My 14 year old son wanted the PS3 when it was first announced many moons ago so we said he could have it for a joint birthday and Xmas present. He eventually got it a week after it first came out - 2 Xmases and 2 birthdays later - great value for money for Mum and Dad in the end!!

To be serious it is expensive but a very good piece of kit with all the equivalent Xbox extras built in and graphics are excellent although he currently only has a standard TV in his room (he can a have an HD TV for another joint 2 Xmases and birthdays!)

Anyway, he plays R:FoM online - no issues at all with response or lag. I'm not a gamer but it looks like one I would play online if I did - good fun.

One question for Neenan or any other PS3ers - have you got your free Casino Royale Blu ray disc yet? My son registered and had an email a long time ago to say it would be sent in 45 days, but no sign of it yet.

Another question - how do get the PS2 online games to work onlne? - my son says it asks for a CD to be inserted?? Is there something special that needs to be done.

I got my Casino Royale over a month ago.

As for PS3 being expensive, that's a matter of opinon; you get a lot for your money.  I use mine regularly for gaming, watching blu-ray and DVD films, surfing the net, listening to music, displaying photos, etc.  All in HD, it's smooth, quiet, so much less hassle than a PC or laptop.  If I had to use one word to describe it I would use "elegant".  It does everything it's designed to do perfectly well, and firmware updates mean that it will continue to do even more as time goes by.

Gaming lag? No, not noticed any, though I do seem to lose connection to the PS3 network occasionally, which is annoying but where that problem is occurring I've no idea.

I am very happy with my PS3, and the second half of this year should see content appear by the bucket load; games, movies and the Home online community.

I've not tried PS2 online games, sorry, but the new upscaling feature for them works a treat, as it does for DVD's too.

I did a search on Google last night and eventually found a forum posting the Playstation Support no. (08705 99 88 77) so I phoned up today, 5-10 wait on hold, and told them. They couldn't find my lads registration although they did agree if we had an email from them saying we were to get one we should have one.

So they took all the details and said would they pass it on. In the meantime they gave me the email address (help_uk@uk.playstation.com) and a reference no. for me to send in an email as they reckoned it might be a faster response  :?

So we'll sit back and see if one does turn up.

Strange thing was when they asked for the postcode they had a totally different person's name! (could be a different house no. I suppose but for all the cynical ones out there, I can hear you  say it would be too much of a coincidence to have a neighbour on the same road with a PS3   )
