I suspect all Oron URLs are being routed through PlusNet's IWF proxy, and so of course that IP(s) is always exhausted.
Here's a link which suggests BE, and BT, are also in the same boat (and that Filesonic, Fileserve and Depositfiles may also be affected):
http://beusergroup.co.uk/?id=468
Here are some test links :
http://oron.com/axkazko4019m/ubuntu-10.04.1-desktop-i386.iso.html
http://oron.com/h924yn9ovtjn/Freeware_-_Seven_House_-_Original_Mix.mp3.html
Here's a link to a diagram of how Plusnet's IWF proxy works (or once worked) :
http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,60045.0.html#msg488934
Is everyone else similarly locked out?
Why can't PlusNet allocate a large pool of IPs for their IWF proxy, so that innocent traffic isn't funnelled through the same, or small number of, IPs?
In any event, can someone from PlusNet please confirm they'll be fixing this pronto, please?

I doubt that this is due to the IWF but it may be the result of a proxy but it seems unlikely
Tried removing all cookies but didn't help

And it's happened before. Put "IWF proxy" in to the Search :
http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php?action=search
Or see :
http://www.google.com/search?q=IWF+proxy+site:community.plus.net
Why else would your IP be showing as already having downloaded 5GB?

Raise a ticket with the details and the error message you get and we'll get our networks team to look at it.

Must I really raise a ticket?
Apart from a brief period a few days after my original post, all Oron links have blocked for all of February.
Both Jim and steedec say they are blocked for them too.
What happens if you, Jojo, click the Oron links in my original post, then click the "Regular Download" button? Don't you also get the "You have reached the download limit: 5000 Mb" message? And the same on any Oron link you try (a Google search http://www.google.com/search?q=inurl:%22http://oron.com/%22+inurl:%22iso%22 will show many to test).
Can't you get your networks team to look at it on that evidence, please?

I often also have to do this for fileserve when it goes into a capcha loop.
Not ideal I know. It's a pity UK ISP's can't think of an alternative to IWF which is little more than an annoyance.

Once you've done it let us know so we can pass it on.

Quote from: Chris We could more than likely replicate it, but the more examples we can give of this happening, the higher priority we can push it as so it'll be fixed faster.
With - literally - two clicks you wouldn't need to speculate about how likely it is that you could replicate it, you could actually replicate it!
And in the same time it took to post your replies (never mind the initial 3 weeks of inaction), you could collect enough examples to indicate that every Oron link is dead to Plusnet customers (or to disprove it: hey, I'm open minded).
Instead we seem to have some Kafkaesque bureaucracy whereby friendly and well-meaning Plusnet staff are apparently powerless to investigate and attempt to correct a clear fault, unless enough hapless customers jump through enough pettifogging hoops.
Is this what is meant by "Friendly, reliable Yorkshire support"? I thought 'Yes, Minister' was set in Whitehall, not Sheffield.

Quote from: billnotben Your only current viable alternative is to do as I do and enter a different proxy either in your browser or in say JDownloader and then the link works fine.
I often also have to do this for fileserve when it goes into a capcha loop.
Not ideal I know. It's a pity UK ISP's can't think of an alternative to IWF which is little more than an annoyance.
I'd assumed any such proxy would cripple the download speed? Got a link for where to find suitable proxies, please?
Is Fileserve's captcha loop also caused by being caught in the IWF proxy?
As for ISPs using the IWF, I imagine we're stuck with that. But why, Chris or Jojo, can't Plusnet simply allocate a large(r) pool of IPs for their IWF proxy, so that innocent traffic isn't funnelled through the same, or small number of, IPs? And if that's not feasible, then what are you going to do about this issue?
And why can't Plusnet publish a Status page showing details (domain - obviously just the bulk ones like Oron, Wikipedia, etc; date/time in; estimated clearance date/time; actual clearance date/time; etc) of when bulk download sites, etc, are caught in the IWF proxy? Transparency and information are watchwords for Plusnet, no? :-
"We're fair and square
If you've ever been frustrated because your broadband provider keeps you in the dark, we think you'll be happy with us. We speak up, fairly and clearly to give you the full picture. If we've messed up, we'll tell you about it and explain what we're doing to fix it, rather than try and hide information."
Time for a re-think by Plusnet on tackling this problem, I'd suggest.

IWF is heavy handed censorship. It's like convicting an entire country for the crimes of just one of its citizens.

Yeah, I am unhappy about IWF, I'm not interested in the stuff they in theory censor, but they do it get wrong from time to time and I'm not impressed by having a moral overlord.
Quote from: billnotben I believe Fileserve's captcha loop is a side effect of IWF.

However getting around the IWF is quite easy, not just the proxy's already mentioned, but if you have access to PC in a data centre, you can in the vast majority of cases use that to access the internet uncensored, either remote into the machine, or setup a VPN so your traffic goes via it, and not Plusnet and the IWF.
