New package...and 80% slower speed. WOW

« on 19/11/2009, 19:55 »
Yesterday I was switched over to Plusnet Premium.  I wanted to go on that because I can't leave my PC on over night so thought the 80Gb allowance during peak times would be great.

And what happened?  My already puny 2.5Mb link (which rarely got above a 300kbs effective download speed) dropped its effective speed to a breathtaking 50kbs between 4pm and, roughly, 11pm.  This is utterly absurd.  Tried phoning AND raising a ticket but to no avail.

Frankly, I'm sick of complaining about it.  Load of rubbish

Had a quick look at your account and I can't see any reason for this at all Huh?

Your IP profile is currently 2000kbps so you should be able to achieve a maximum throughput speed similar to this. You're not mixing up your kilobits and kilobytes are you?

2000kbps or 2Mbps =  250kBps.

What does a BT speedtest tell you?

So now I'm paranoid that I've got my numbers wrong (and I work in ICT support)

I will take a deeeeep breath and re-check / re-test everything tonight

 Copied From BT test:
Download speed achieved during the test was - 1664 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-2000 Kbps.

BUT

When I try to download a large test file from thinkbroadband.com the download speed fluctuates between 50KB/Sec and 85KB/Sec

So, my practical, real time download speed is significantly lower than the tests are suggesting

NOW I get it

Ok, so 4pm to 10pm I'm not going to get anything special (not that my connection is all that special in any case)

Thanks pierre_pierre

And thanks to Bob and Chris as well.  I guess I'm never going to see blistering speeds until BT do something to improve my line.

Out of interest, is my exchange ADSL2+ enabled?  Could that be my way forward to broadband nirvana?   Cheesy

HMMMMMMMMMMMM

Well, it says it's coming - 28/02/2010

Now, let's say that by some weird stretch of the imagination BT actually do this on time, how long after the exchange upgrade can PN up my speed? (Sorry if the question's a bit naiive)

Oh, and I wish I'd started coming here many moons ago - I'm learning a lot in a short time.  Thanx guys
