Did PCL-AG03 go down @1630 Sat 14 Nov

See this - http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,80908.0.html
Is anyone on the gateway?
If it's down, has anyone at PN noticed? If not why not?
If is down why isn't there a service status?

Does anyone at PN work weekends then, normally if there are any problems its a case of "we'll look at it on Monday"

Well, I notice Chris Parr on the forum, so hopefully we may get an answer soon.

TBH I think it's a valid question. All PN users are routed through one of ten(?) gateways. If one of them goes down then that's a major outage as it can potentially affect a large proportion of PN's userbase. PN don't seem to proactively monitor major parts of their infrastructure as it's not unusual for major faults to be reported by customers for some time before PN seem even to be aware of them.

Well he was. There's an announcement on the CSC phone line, I'm waiting to speak to someone now.

Re: Did PCL-AG03 go down @1630 Sat 14 Nov

So PN CSC agent said they only found out about it this morning and when I asked why there was not a Service Status, all I got was weasel words if my connection was fine  - ie if I could connect to the internet. Well PN that isn't good enough. I'm on a congested gateway now, performance is down, and it's going to be total pants this evening when the network goes onto plan B.
I had to bend the blokes ear to ensure a Service Status was going to be posted. Angry

I've just been told we're doing some maintenance to fix this, service status on the way.

Service Status - http://www.plus.net/supportpages.html?a=2&?helpheader=servicestatus
OK thanks for that Chris, but can you please find out why you've only just been told about it?

Re: Did PCL-AG03 go down @1630 Sat 14 Nov

I'm surprised that the Network Monitoring kit in the Operations Centre does not flag such an outage and raise an 'Alert'   Losing 10% of the network access is significant and should warrant a quick response?
This problem was aired and discussed over a year ago with re-assurances given that 'all was now well' with active Network Monitoring.  Has the recent Data Centre move had an unwanted side effect?

Quite possibly - the timing and some of the symptoms certainly match.

Re: Did PCL-AG03 go down @1630 Sat 14 Nov

It certainly looks like it, it's a shame you tacked it on to that thread paulh rather than raise a new topic. I'm annoyed with myself for not spotting I'd been dumped off pcl-ag03 sooner. But I'm more annoyed with PN for the lack of monitoring and lack of service status until I complained.
