Where do I go from here?

Below is my B.T test for this morning . I have had trouble with my connection for a long time and had response to tickets about this, but get nowhere. Now,  I cant reply to tickets on the portal as it is so slow.( I think there is something wrong at PN ) Though this works reasonably well  My connection has I think been up for several days .I am afraid to re-boot the router as my connection may get slower. Two years ago my connection rate was 1500 and my IP profile 1000

Re: Where do I go from here?

As I posted here I would be interested to see your router stats.

Re: Where do I go from here?

The obvious question has to be: Are those stats from the BT Test Socket?
If not, explain where and also describe your phone wiring, extensions, cabling and devices please.

Re: Where do I go from here?

Yes from B.T socket the only one in the house, which a B.T man fixed. I did have an adsl nation face plate, which I put here ,but have now  removed that and tried the main socket on the right .with a B.T filter out of the filter I have my 2 Wire router connection and a two way telephone plug one ti an ordinary phone on my desk and the other a lead to a dect phone with three phones Disconnecting the phones makes little difference. Re: Where do I go from here?

I presume your 2wire router is a 2700, can you post the dsl diagnostic information from here http://gateway.2wire.net/xslt?PAGE=J42 ; That might help to determine whether you have any wiring issues.

Uncancelled Echo: -9.2 dB Ok
VCXO Frequency Offset: 25.3 ppm Ok
Final Rx Gain: 34.5 dB Ok
Impulse Noise Comp. Tones: 0 Ok
Excessive Impulse Noise: 0 Ok

That's the significant bit, the 2700 has some useful diagnostics which can detect bad/missing filters and wiring issues. Seems to be reasonably ok on yours.
However the bad news is :-
Quote
Downstream Atten. at 300kHz: 70.0 dB

That indicates either a lo...ng line or a fault which is increasing the attenuation. The 63db in your original post is the calculated one over the whole frequency band and is limited by most routers to 63ish. On the 2700 it also gives the actual attenuation at 300khz and as you see thats not limited and is 70db.
What's not completely clear from your earlier post is whether you have actually tried connecting to the test socket ( the socket behind the removeable faceplate on the master socket ) ?

Re: Where do I go from here?

Yes I have  and to no  avail, I will try again but understand that it is better not to reboot yet as my download should improve after 48 hours I have sent for a B.T face plate "amplifier" from B.T and it should be here soon and thought I would then disconnect  and  fit it.  I am on a long line probably 3miles or more , These problems  may  have originated when we had a child in the room and sometimes switched everything off at night. But we saw a marked deterioration before then and my neighbours claim to do better and are with B.T
This is how it was in Oct 2007 and it has been better  think it should be at least like this now

Re: Where do I go from here?

One possibility - if you don't mind lower upstream speeds is to see if Plusnet can put you on a fixed speed 1000kbps line

Yes I have  and to no  avail,

Thats fine and you're right its not a good idea to disconnect too often.
Given those figures from 2007 it could well be that your line has deteriorated to some extent OR perhaps the router
has deteriorated... The 2700 is one of the better routers for long lines but its possibly worth trying another router if possible just to rule it out as the problem.

and my neighbours claim to do better and are with B.T

Can you get details of their router stats for comparison ?

Re: Where do I go from here?

Thanks but I think I had something like that , but MAX was better, when it became available to my exchange  I,m sure something is wrong and probably need a b.t visit We do have the problem of short power cuts due to birds in the marshes and router going down
