I have tried to use the normal support ticketing process for a long time, but since that team is more struggling about assigning the right resolver group, I decide it is time to look my issues here and maybe as for other ADSL2+ users, I might get some more help and clarity here.

Summary of my ADSL2+ state.
From when I joined March/April 09 until around July, I was very happy, reaching overall 12/13mb/s download, high synch rates etc.

Then in July I went on hols and we switched off all electrical equipment in the house.

On return, my ADSL2+ speed was downgraded since probably BT has seen it as a very long disconnect

Since then I have been trying to return to my pre-holiday speed. I had a ticket open, had a BT engineer etc etc..

i am very close to the exchange, they were able to get my SNR down,...speed up but plusnet profile not, then profile up, speed down etc etc etc.

At the moment a BT speed test shows:

Today @1749
Download speedachieved during the test was - 6015 Kbps
 For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 600-7150 Kbps.
 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :9725 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 443 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
 IP Profile for your line is - 8000 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 13.45:26.13:60.42 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.

not seeing a change on this side yet. As well, when trying to run the BTspeedtest I get:

Performance Tester is unable to run the speed test for your telephone number:. Please check that it is the correct telephone number for your service. Did you follow all the instructions given on the website, before initiating the speed test. If not, then please follow all the instructions carefully and try to run the test again.If you believe it is the correct number for your service and you have followed all the instructions then please ask your Service Provider whether you can use Performance Tester to test your Broadband speed. If yes, then ask him for the Service ID of your broadband connection and try again with this Service ID along with your Telephone Number. If this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider.

As well, any input on ideal MTU setting in the modem currently it is 1492..

as well any input in the above odd disconnect...

And finally, even if my line is stable for 3, 6, 8 days, I am seeing no improvements from the DLM...are you able to request a reduction in SNR ? currently it is:

TBH I don't think you have a stuck profile, your sync speed and profile seem about right, and your profile with us matches BT's. You've been connected for 5 days now, so it doesn't appear to be an intermittent sync fault either.

I'm not sure there's too much we can do to push BT on this one in all honesty.

can you please explain then why for more than 3 months until my holiday break I was synching at 18000K, had very good performance...

post that holiday BT/PN have been able  to individually resolve things but not in tandem:
e.g. BT synch went back up to 13K, SNRs were correct again,  but PN profile remained at 5K
then BT adjusted, although there were no disconnects/instabilties the SNR and as a result synch to e.g. 7.6K the next day PN increased profile to 12K
....
this cat and mouse game continued for about 3-4 weeks. The only disconnects I ever faced during that period was because BT changed the SNR....

PN staff at that time communicated as well that they did not know what was going on.

a suggestion:
1) can you set and keep it the IP profile on 12K
2) request BT to lower the SNR
3) see if the line remains stable.

In this case, PN does not need to adjust the profile post BT, you do it before.

Looking forward to your thoughts on this.

Sorry, I didn't mean that there wasn't a problem somewhere, just that the problem wasn't specifically a stuck profile our side.

We can probably get your SNR reset, but BT tend to only be happy to do this once. I'd expect it to be the first thing we do as part of your fault.

your PN profile should follow any changes in your BT one here http://speedtester.bt.com/ within 12hours. when the trail first started there was alot of times PN profile failed to update right hence this thread.

The 21cn DLM is alot more responsive in changing noise margin, this works both up and down and any changes the dlm makes at your sync speed is going to effect the overall speed lose/gain alot more than my line at 3000kbps. i would be inclined to wait for the dlm to do its stuff as ive not had my DLM tweaked since april and gone through the many months of banded profiles ect to get the dlm happy with my line now. it seems the 21cn dlm is responsive but it takes it awhie to fully learn your line and reduce its speed at upping your noise margin at the first sign of trouble (ive never had connection drops but run fastpath and seems the dlm will react to any sudden increase in error rates)

as mand has said BT tend to be cagey about doing more than one noise margin reset request, so think hard before using you one go as it will be murder to get bt to lower your noise margin if you need at a later date

Couple of questions then:

1) how long do we anticipate that the DLM should take? e.g. should I see a change after 3 days stable, 7 days, 28 days stable? or even longer
--> which would be a problem if occassionally I want to make some changes in the modem / router that requires it to reboot the modem.

2) MTU setting. What is the recommended preferred here and would it have a influence on stability?

3) I included in the start of my thread this query on:
Timeout in LCP negotiation --> I have this irregularly for some periods...
any thoughts on this? my end PN end, BT end....

I have to say I disagree ASBO… my SNR has not dropped below 9.5db for the last 4 weeks or so, I have a very stable line - going many days at a time connected, but still no sign of a reduction.

I would have thought the 21CN DLMs would be more responsive, not less.

I would actually like to give it a try, can you please work with BT to get my SNR resetted to a lower value, at present it is 19db

I got BT to perform a line check and they say there is nothing wrong with it..

@talkcomp I've updated your profile to 8mb to match the BTs side so your profile isn't stuck. Hopefully it'll jump again soon and you'll get the extra 1mb on there

@mvdb it should update within 3 days. I can't really advise on MTU as it's specific to line and equipment but there's a good guide on how to sort it all out on kitz's site - http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/MTU2.htm
As regards the LCP, I can't think of anything that might cause that at our end of things. Do you get the same issues with a different router, or the same router on a different line? I think that wuold be worth trying before we reset the SNR, as Mand says once this has been done we can't request it a second time.

is this thread still the best way to report a stuck profile?

Minor one, but my BT profile has been at 5500 since late Wednesday PN profile still at 5000 (should have updated by now?), does it need a little nudge?

Never mind,

Router lost PPP and would not reconnect without a restart, now synced at 6152 so my BT profile will have dropped to match PN (well that's one way to get the profiles to match).
