There'd be no point having a lead price if it wasn't quoted. It's standard marketing practice to advertise a lead price, with the ongoing price detailed.

The ongoing price is pretty clear IMO. It's on both the initial sales page and the pop-up, and obviously detailed in signup once you've done a line check.

12/18 month broadband contracts have been abolished - all Plusnet residential contracts (including for existing users) are now 10 days (however deferred charges such as activation or hardware may have to be paid if you leave within a year)

So it's official then, Plusnet is abandoning anything that made it different and we back to the bad, days running up to the BT takeover where all you are doing is chasing market share and increased profits. I thought the last few months had been characterised by steady sustainable growth. What was it you lost last time round when it all went pear shaped - 20-30,000 users?

At least Plusnet always used be clear and up-front about their prices. No hidden catches.


Plusnet Customer Support (Sheffield) 0114-296-5198   Depending on your telephone provider, time of day etc it may be cheaper to use the 0845 number and possibly speak to South Africa.

Have read what I can about the new Value product and if I have it correctly, would benefit by moving to this from Option 1.
I am not over-anxious about speed etc as I only use the computer for general purposes and my current speed is more than adequate for this.
I have a market 3 exchange (there are about 5 or 6 companies with LLU). If I change I will get 10GB for £5.50 per month for an 18 month contract instead of £9.99 per month for 2GB (less the VAT of course) - is this correct please?

10GB for £5.99 on an 18 month contract yes. The only major difference between Option 1 is the VPN speed (it's better on Value).

Not so, a lead price is meant to make a splash in terms of marketing. The ongoing price is pretty clear.

We ran a special offer over the last few months giving a lead price and increased usage on Option 1, and this was highly successful. This is not a complete new strategy for us.

You should have jumped at the Option 1 Special Offer 10GB product which ended yesterday Sad

However, if you are in a Market 3 area, you should look seriously at O2 Standard with the discount for having an O2 PayG Mobile. The O2 IPStrean (Access) product is a crock but the LLU is excellent. I am also pleasantly surprised at the performance of the TalkTalk LLU service which is very cheap if ypu tale their Phone bundle.

PlusNet is not the only show in town! .... and yes, I am very disappointed with the new products.Sad  Cry

There's some other major differences between the products:

- Static IP
- Block of IPs
- Hosting of up to 5 domains
- 250Mb Web space
- MySQL, CGI etc

Do you keep those if you move from Option 1 to Value?

One other question: do the new products allow for SMTP mail delivery?

The reason I didn't mention that in my post is you will keep those if you have them already.

You can still choose SMTP mail delivery on the new products too, yes.
