Zattoo offer broadcast-quality terrestrial TV

« on 16/12/2008, 10:11 »
Just received the attached email from Zattoo. Seems that they are offering broadcast quality terrestrial streaming between now and 14th January. Just fired up the app on my work lappy and the resolution seems to be at least double that of the standard streams. As the app normally uses about 512kbps of bandwidth then I'd expect the broadcast quality streams to use more (can't really test this on the work lappy due to the draconian privilege restrictions that stop me from easily installing a bandwidth monitoring utility).

Just read this on the official press release:

The HiQ channels are streamed in full TV resolution (576x528 pixel), with a bitrate of 1.5 Mbps, and require a bandwidth of at least 2 Mbps.

HiQ is free to Zattoo’s UK viewers from 16 December to 15 January.
Hopefully in the near future the HiQ channels will be permenant because the quality on them is so much better, just been watching channel 4 and was amazed at the jump in full screen quality!
