Question Thread

My order does seem to have taken place. Sync jumped up to 4096 from about 3392.
I will put more details in the speed comparison thread.

ADSL2+ has been up and running since just after midday.  I suspect that speed tests will remain at previous (ADSL1) levels until my IP profile begins to increase.  Is it worth rebooting the router once each day during the 7 day training period?

That wouldn't do any harm at all.

I checked which gateway I was on and the following was reported:

Which gateway
You are currently connected to the "Telehouse North, LLU" gateway. This gateway is sometimes known as thn-ag2.
If you are on this gateway, you are on the Tiscali LLU Platform.

Is the ADSL2+ trial using the Tiscali Platform?

No.

All of our ADSL2+ customers will be using our dedicated MSIL (kinda like a central for ADSL2+).

Are we patched through to the ADSL2+ environment via thn-ag2?  It was just strange to see it reported that thn-ag2 was the Tiscali LLU platform.

Yep.  It's basically because it's the least utilised box and means that we don't need to buy additional hardware (yet) for the early stages of our trial.

Can I un-volunteer please? It was an interesting trial, but unfortunately ADSL2+ is worse than ADSL1 on my line. The problem for me is the upload speed is slower than I was getting on ADSL1 Max. Download sync is very slightly slower as well.

I can switch you on to ADSL via 21CN see if that makes any difference, should take 1 working day (so should be done on Monday).

Thanks Dave. I note today that at about 12:33 the connection dropped and resyncd again on ADSL with no interleaving, so something changed?
Now 3072 down and 800 Up at 56dB Att and 12.6dB S/N

I notice that most days at around 12:30 the connection is dropped.

Interesting!  I've just posted something similar on the Speed Thread.

Moderator's Note:

I assume this comment refers to the following text. Since this is a question rather than speed related I have added the quote here. Please continue discussion of this issue in the present thread. David (spraxyt)

Since switching over to the ADSL2+ service at 12:10 on 4th December, I have noticed that my line has disconnected at approximately 12:10 each day, except for one day.  Does the rate adaption system resync the line every 24 hours subject to certain conditions being met on the line?

Thanks David.  I should have moved that paragraph across myself after noticing the related posting here.  Sorry about that.

At 12:10 on Saturday my line disconnected, the DSL connection resynced but the connection to the Internet failed (couldn't connect to my PlusNet account and hence the Internet).  After rebooting the router a number of times and attempting to get the router to connect, I called the Customer Support Centre to report a problem (ID 27286674).  Two 'bt_test' accounts were tried but neither were able to connect and therefore the problem was escalated to the relevant team.  The Internet connection remained down for 24 hours during which time I reset my router to the original factory settings and periodically attempted to connect but without success.  However, at 12:10 today the DSL connection resynced and I was then able to get the router to establish the Internet connection.  It seems as though the resyncing of the DSL connection triggered the problem.  It would be interesting to know quite what happened here.  Do your systems provide any clues?

The DSL connection is resyncing every 24 hours and this forces the line to disconnect.  Is this what you would expect to happen and if so is it just a temporary situation until the correct settings are determined for the line?

As far as I know, this isn't expected behavior. Does the disconnection occur at the same time as anything else you've got in the house, e.g. central heating switching on/off, Christmas lights or something else that could cause interference?

It's nothing to do with anything going on in the house.  This has only happened since going on to the ADSL2+ trial.  The connection was rock solid on ADSL1, I never used to get any disconnects at all.  The only time the line would ever disconnect was when I switched the router off last thing at night.
