The date of Windows XP Service Pack 3 has not yet been released, it is currently in testing and the release is expected within the next few months.

Windows XP SP3 is due for release on the 29th of April. Wahoo Smiley

WinXP Pro is the only operating system from Microsoft I've ever liked. I'm on 3 years and 5 months with this current installation and no sign of problems!

From a WinInfo Update email:

Quote
"We are happy to announce that Windows XP Service Pack 3 has released to manufacturing (RTM)," wrote Chris Keroack, the release manager for XP SP3, in a posting to Microsoft's TechNet site. Keroack also spelled out a rough release schedule for the service pack, which begins with the April 29 manual download availability and ends with an "early summer" broad release via Windows Update. A separate Microsoft post, since removed, placed automatic availability via Windows Update on June 10, however.

Here's the complete XP SP3 release schedule:
RTM (release to manufacturing): April 21
OEM channel: April 21
Windows Update (optional update): April 29
Microsoft Download Center: April 29
MSDN/TechNet download: May 2
Windows XP SP3 fulfillment media (CD-based): May 19
Volume license customers download: June 1
Windows Update/Automatic Updates: June 10

Tricky!  I guess you'll have to use that rare commodity a 'spare' machine, that is not on the WSUS update list and do a manual update via Internet Exploder.

Except I can't as it hasn't been released via TechNet (the usual channel) in advance.

But it will be via the Windows Update (optional) service on 29/04/2008 - a full 6 weeks before the WSUS update is due?  Should be enough time to test and make a decision on whether to authorise via WSUS?

I plan to take this route and also to create a new 'Test' group of clients which will be the only group to be in the initial Authentication for distribution.  A bit of hassle - but safer than the alternative Undecided

Major Geeks purport to have a copy of the final XP SP3 release here. I've just downloaded it and may install it over lunch.

Update to the above - on installing this patch displays the license for a pre-release version, so I doubt it is the final version. Just a heads up.
