Evernote to the rescue

Evernote are pretty clever people. In a nutshell, they've made a massively powerful note taking tool that keeps everything organised across all your online devices.   Oh, and it’s completely free.

So here’s how it works. Let’s say you’ve installed Evernote on your iPhone and you’re taking notes on it during a meeting. Every time you save a note it will search it for keywords and tag each piece of information so you can find it easily later. Then when you start up your PC at home or at work, all your notes are already there, organised and searchable. You can do a lot with this. Photos etc can be easily uploaded, and it will even recognise words in the photos – so for example, if you take a photo of someone’s business card, you can search for their name afterwards and it’ll bring it up for you (we’ve found this also works well with take-out menus, newspaper articles, posters, and lots of other things). You can also put an Evernote button in your internet browser, which you can use to take clippings from websites and send them to your notes. Apart from text, web, and photos, you can also take voice notes, grab screenshots and send emails to it - anything you send to your Evernote email address will be automatically stored and indexed. Once there, notes are safe because they aren’t just stored on your computer, they’re stored on Evernote’s computers too. So yes, we’re big fans. There is a premium version, but you don’t get much more than you get in the free version, which is the one we’ve been using. It’s well worth giving it a try – visit Evernote here.
