YouTube API for developers

March 13th, 2008 at 09:38 by Peter Jackson

This news is a couple of days old (at least) but it’s worthy of posting up here because  YouTube have released an API that allows developers and enthusiasts (we used to call you ‘webmasters’- whatever happened to that phrase?) to re-skin the ‘embedded’ video player.

So that means you can better match the ‘look and feel’ of the YouTube player to your own website.  We’re looking at it right now.. imagine PlusNet TV in this Community site without having to go to the YouTube website. And imagine that we can take control of the look and feel.  Sounds great.

"Webmaster" was such a terrible word. It hung in an uncomfortable limbo between tongue-in-cheek Star Wars reference and self-important geek arrogance. I called myself one for want of something better but I'm glad I don't have to any more!

I still do... at least I haven't changed my contact info on some of the sites I develop. Should really get round to that lol.
