Re: DNS servers failing

Me too  Angry   tried everything I could for a few hours thinking it was my PC or router as nothing on plusnet site to say it was them!!!!  Eventually tried another PC and the same, so knew then it was service not equipment IE or windows etc.  No support, even when I phoned at 7.30am was told to go away by a computer as they are having problems and cant talk to anyone.  Computers one step closer to becoming human,  they will rule the world soon and we will be the robots, sad.

Re: Some sites load, others don't and show ERR-NAME-RESOLUTION-FAILED

Yep - problems for me too.
This is my first time trying to contact PlusNet for technical support and I must say that I am NOT impressed.
I waited 3 hours for the support line to open at 7.30am.  I started trying to call them at 7.35am and STILL can not get through.  It rings and then says "no messages may be taken on this message box"  NOT helpful.  If you supply a phone number and say it is available at 7.30am then it should be.

Re: Some sites load, others don't and show ERR-NAME-RESOLUTION-FAILED

People are starting new posts about this issue right left and centre.  My problems were greatly alleviated after making Google's DNS server, 8.8.8.8 as the secondary (the primary DNS server being set to my router's IP address).

Same issue here as if having 4 service faults in 6 months with one on-going isn't enough to deal

Re: Some sites load, others don't and show ERR-NAME-RESOLUTION-FAILED

This started happening yesterday and although the google 8.8.8.8 fix works, I don't want to have to individually do it for each machine so I've changed the DNS in the new Plusnet Sagemcom router to permanently point to Google DNS rather than Plusnet's increasingly flaky (and slow to update!) DNS servers!

for non WIndows/Mac/friendly linux distros  --- adding the google ns and OpenDNS ns to /etc/resolv.conf fixed everything in my linux system for the time being at least.
haven't looked at windows yet.

Re: DNS servers failing

To add there is a handy tool you can use and it is free if you are having DNS problems or just find PlusNet going down the pan which they are recently and seem to be a sinking ship!
I am afraid I cannot give you the link as Forum rules I am sure do not allow!
But the tool you are looking for Is [ Dns Jumper v2.0 ] please use common sense and make sure download safe and antivirus check before opening.
I do hope this helps some of you not just now but in the future .

Re: Some sites load, others don't and show ERR-NAME-RESOLUTION-FAILED

It's a DNS issue - PlusNet's DNS servers are borked - but Googles' work fine.
1. Download netsetman from www.netsetman.com (it's free for personal use)
2. In netsetman, select a profile tab and click the twirly button which says "Network adapters list" when you hover over it. Select from the list of adapters it has found, the one you want to configure (probably WiFi)
3. IP and gateway - select "obtain an address automatically"
4. DNS server - tick in the box and select "use the following DNS server addresses". First line 8.8.8.8 and second line 8.8.4.4
5. Click "Activate" top right.
This will locally (i.e. on just your PC only) set your DNS to Google.
Obviously, reverse this out one Plusnet have fixed the problem.
