Our top 5 Netflix TV shows to see you through to Christmas

Lots of quality viewing time can get lost scrolling to find something you really fancy watching on Netflix. Not because of the lack of quality programs, but because there’s so much to choose from.

With so many TV classics, re-runs, comedies, documentaries, short films and comedy sketches available, our ‘ones to watch’ lists here at Plusnet just keep getting longer and longer. On top of that new TV shows and Netflix originals are being added to the channel left right and centre.

So, as it’s the time of year when all you really want to do is curl up and binge watch a TV series, we thought it would be helpful to pull together a list of our top five must watch shows that have recently been released on Netflix or are about to go live.

Black Mirror – 21st October 2016. Whether or not you’ve watched Charlie Brooker’s Channel 4 drama, it’s still worth giving this series a go as each episode is separate from the last. Fictional and dark, Black Mirror takes inspiration from the unsuspected consequences of the way in which the modern world and technology is progressing.

If you loved Screenwipe, Utopia, or anything that Charlie Brooker has done previously then this is one to watch.

The Crown – 4th November 2016. Taking its lead from the play ‘The Audience’ this Netflix Original series is based on the life of Queen Elizabeth II, taking viewers from the start of her reign up until the present day.

Starring Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth, and Matt Smith as Prince Philip, this drama has already had a very positive response and, although not a documentary, is very fact heavy, which is good news for Royal fans.

If you like The Tudors and Victoria, or you’re passionate about period dramas in general, then this is definitely one for you save onto ‘My List’ on your Netflix account.

3% - 25th November 2016. This futuristic thriller is the first Netflix production to be shot in Brazil and was kept under the radar for quite a while. Set in a post-apocalyptic time where a mere three percent of 20-year-olds are selected and given a chance to progress to the “better side” of the world, the show has been described as sinister, dark and in the same spirit as Hunger Games.

If Westworld, The Walking Dead or Homeland are your kind of viewing then this is one for you.

Gilmore Girls – 25th November 2016. It’s been nine years since we caught up with the coffee drinking mum and daughter duo and now they’re back for an eighth season ‘A Year in the Life’ which consists of four episodes, each of which is set in a different season, starting in winter. If you adored the first seven seasons then you should already have this penned in the diary.

If you’re a fan of Hart of Dixie, Charmed, Parenthood or even Sex and the City you should definitely start watching Gilmore Girls from season one right now. It’ll keep you busy over the Christmas period!

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency – 11th December 2016. First airing on BBC America last month, the rest of us don’t have long to wait until we too can delve into the series. Elijah Wood and Samuel Barnet star in the show, which is based on the comedic detective novel by Douglas Adams, and with another season already commissioned it would suggest it’s due to be a success.

If you like the original, approach with an open mind as reviews highlight stark differences between this adaptation and the book. Also, if you regard Sherlock Holmes, Doctor Who and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D highly then stick it on your list.

So there you have it, our top 5 Netflix TV shows to see you through to that magical time of year. Enjoy Netflix, BT Sport and much more with YouView TV.
