If you've got an Apple Mac computer running OS X, you can use these instructions to connect to your Plusnet webspace, although you can probably use these instructions as a general guide for using most FTP programs. You can connect to an FTP service using Finder, but if you want to upload files to your own space you will need to use an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) Program. There are many FTP programs available to download for free. We recommend Cyberduck for its ease of use.
Double click the file to uncompress it. The following screen will appear:
Drag and drop the Cyberduck file into the Applications folder on the Macintosh HD.
Then double click the Cyberduck icon to start the application:
Click Open Connection in the top left to connect to the FTP server:
Type in the Server name. If you're not sure what to use, you can find the details you need here. Your username and password are the same as those used for accessing the Members Centre. You don't need to tick the boxes. Click Connect.
When connecing to your standard webspace you'll need to go to the htdocs directory to upload files. On the CGI server you can upload your files wherever you like.
You can then just drag and drop files from the desktop to upload to your space.
When you have finished with your file transfers, just click on Disconnect in the top right hand corner.
To connect to your webspace in Mac OS X, go to your Finder, and select the Go menu. Choose the 'Connect to Server' option.
Type in the URL of the webspace or other FTP site. If you're not sure which URL to use, you can find the details you need here. You then need to click on the + button to add the address to your selection window. Then click on the address in the selection window and click Connect.
Enter your account username and password. Then click OK.
When connecing to your standard webspace you'll need to go to the htdocs directory to upload files. On the CGI server you can upload your files wherever you like.
You can drag files you wish to download to your Mac HardDrive, remember you can't upload files using Finder - for that use an FTP program like CyberDuck.
