Broadband Faults Guide - Broadband Network
There are three parts which make up the broadband network; these are ‘E-side’, D-side’ and ‘Final Drop’.
I will start with the E-side; this consists of:
- Local Exchange (which contains Exchange equipment and the Main Distribution Frame)
- Cable Joints
- Cable Segments
These form the E-side (Exchange Side) of the network. Faults can quite possibly be with any part of the network, this is why it is essential that we get as much information as possible from our testing and from the End User to ensure we can narrow down the location of the fault.
The D-side consists of:
- Cabinet (PCP – Primary Cross-connect Cabinet)
- Underground cabling (leading to your telephone pole)
The Final Drop consists of:
- Distribution Point (DP) – This can either Overhead or Underground – dependent on when the structure was implemented
- Dropwire (Only exists for overhead DP’s) – This is the cable which you may see coming from telephone pole to your premises
- Network Termination – This is the cabling that leads up to your premises and up to your Test Socket.
