As I understand it a major driver of the revamp to FoD is to make it available to more people.
Making it less labour intensive means the pricing can go down, and with G.fast nodes generally very close to homes fibre will be much closer to homes too.
The G.fast nodes will apparently be fed via passive fibre and spare ports on the splitters feeding G.fast nodes could certainly be used to deliver FoD to homes and businesses. It wouldn't even need to have any impact on G.fast as 10Gb XGPON and 2.4Gb GPON can co-exist on the same fibre, running on different wavelengths.
Some lucky people will be sitting pretty on 1Gb on the new trials.
