How to get connected to new powered cabinet.

We are currently on the end of 4km of copper wire for broadband and our speed is rubbish, 5mB. Recently a new powered cabinet has been installed and activated about 300m from our house but we have not been invited to upgrade to fibre which would give us over 40mB.

How do we ask for connection to this new cabinet?

Hi @Walmyster

I would suggest getting in touch with our Customer Options Team - they will be able to discuss the ability to upgrade to Fibre

Telephone number:
0800 013 2632 or 0330 123 9197 (Both free from a Plusnet Landline)

Opening Times:
08:00 - 20:00 Monday to Friday
09:00 - 19:00 Saturday
09:00 - 18:00 Sundays

Thanks

@Walmyster

What does the DSL Checker say for your line (post a screen image if you can)

This is the pic for my current cabinet (4) but the new one is Cab 15 which is powered and only 300m from my house.

Hi, thanks for the mail. Please have a reread of my post. I can’t upgrade on my current cabinet because of the line attenuation over 4km. I need to move to the new cabinet.

@Walmyster

Sorry, should have stated not to include your phone number on the image.

It's possible the new cabinet hasn't been commissioned yet. If they are transferring lines from an old to a new cabinet ("live to live" migration) this is a complicated task and can take some time.

Nah, it is commissioned, and my current copper line passes next to it. I have emailed Openreach to see what they say.

@Walmyster

Are there any new developments in your area that the new cabinet might serve?

If not, then there's a chance that it is for your area. As previously stated live to live migrations are notoriously difficult and take time.

Good luck with OpenReach - you'll need it.

Re: How to get connected to new powered cabinet.

Hi there.

Unfortunately we can't do anything to influence a live to live migration moving your line to the closer cabinet.

However if you haven't already I'd raise a query with Openreach by filling out this formwize and they'll get back to you with what info they can share.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Thanks Anoush

Openreach seem to want to refer me back to Plusnet. If I place an order with you for a new line can you influence which cabinet it comes from?

currently I am on St.Day cabinet 4 which is 4km away. The new cabinet 15 is only 300m away.

Re: How to get connected to new powered cabinet.

Until the BT  DSL checker says you are connected to the new cabinet nothing will change, PlusNet can not ask for a line to be provided from a different cabinet. Do you have any idea which properties are supplied from cabinet 15 are they near you? Have any neighbours got decent FTTC speeds?

Hi, Yes, 50% of my postcode and 100% of the next postcode are on Cabinet 15 and are getting about 40 meg.

Hi @Walmyster

Apologies for misinterpreting your initial post.

Gandalf and RealAleMadrid are correct when they say we can not influence the decision regarding cab connection - it's strange that OR are pointing you back to us, did they give you any specific reason as to why they did that?

Thanks

Re: How to get connected to new powered cabinet.

@Walmyster

Do you know anyone in the 50% of your post code who are on the new cabinet???

If so, have a chat with them to see if they were "moved" and saw increased speed as a result. If they were, when did it happen?

Re: How to get connected to new powered cabinet.

They seem to think I want a new connection and were talking about using the Bronze address process instead of the Gold process.

last time I had a problem I sent an email to the CEO of OR and got onto the executive complaint process. Maybe I’ll try that again.
