Time server "Busy"

Hopefully someone at Plusnet knows what I'm on about... (@Bob Pullen ?)

I noticed a few minutes ago that my computer's clock was 3½ hours slow, so I checked my settings. I use ntp.plus.net to keep the somewhat erratic internal clock up to speed, but my setting showed that the server was responding with Busy.

I can change to one of the pool servers for now, but ideally I'd like to use the PN server, as it's obviously the closest one.

Re: Time server "Busy"

I wouldn’t use that one anymore as it’s no longer within PlusNet. It got moved to some BT site awhile back and stopped responding to pings. Maybe it’s been shut down completely now?

Re: Time server "Busy"

The DNS issues should now be resolved so please do try a reboot of the router if still ongoing.

Re: Time server "Busy"

Interesting. It's been working fine for years, and is back up and running now, so I'll continue using it for the time being.
If it is on the BT network, it's still going to be closer to me than any other NTP server.

Sometimes it is but not always, some of the UK pool ntp servers have a shorter route. All you really need is something reasonably local and reliable with backup options. ±10ms won't really be noticeable.

Re: Time server "Busy"

Closeness to the NTP server is NOT a big issue, as NTP will not only ask for the time, but will apply a correction based on the link latency.
