More on IP address stability

Interesting?

By looking at some Wikipedia User talk pages addressed to myself, dating from 2021, (before I had a Wikipedia account) I see my then Plusnet IP address was identical to my current Plusnet IP address.

Is this a record? 😄

Re: More on IP address stability

You don't by any chance have the (now no longer available) "static IP address option" do you.

Failing that, I wonder if you use something like the Plusnet "safe" DNS, that may cause the IP address to remain the same.

I am the satisfied customer....

Re: More on IP address stability

I have never had a Plusnet static IP option.

My Plusnet Hub 2 router itself uses the default PN DNS servers. I seem to vaguely recall something about a PN 'New Network' or something that means people just do effectively have fixed IPs. But I was genuinely surprised to find I am now on the same IP as back in the day when I was still on ADSL 2+ with a PN supplied Technicolor router.

Re: More on IP address stability

What do you mean by “my address”?  That of your Plusnet hosted website or your connection address?

The latter being consistent across product changes, without having a static IP address option seems unlikely … unless you used the Plusnet connection side firewall.

Re: More on IP address stability

@pvmb  You may not have asked for a static IP address but there are some situations where you get one automatically.

Using the account based firewall or the Safeguard DNS servers are two possibilities, I think that could explain your long lived IP address.

Using the firewall is but using the Safeguard DNS isn't
