Landline Switch off 2025

Dear Plusnet,

Just to ask about the nationwide landline switch-off, taking place at the end of 2025.  As it says, landlines will not be in use anymore, the telephone network will then be 'in the cloud'.  I understand that routers, in order to deliver broadband as they always have done, will then need to have a phone 'socket' in order to connect to broadband.  Has Plusnet changed its routers to accept this?

Yours

Marek

Fix

As it stands with Plusnet at the moment, the Hubs supplied do not have VoIP capabilities, and they do not currently offer such a service to those moving to FTTP - you have to arrange your own VoIP service, should you require one. NOTE - this does not say what they will be doing in the future.

not necessarily. They only need a phone socket to connect an existing analogue style phone to a voip service.

Not everyone wants a voip service. There are also other ways of connecting to a voip service.

A separate analogue telephone adapter(,ATA)  which connects to the phone and then to the router using ethernet.

A separate dedicated voip phone which just connects directly to the router via ethernet.

A wireless voip phone.
