Re: Discussion Thread for new Community Forum Structure

A reminder of the rules :
Quote
The forums are moderated by customers, namely; Roger (Chemical Brother), Barry Zubel (Barry), Jim (Oldjim) Adie (Adiewoo) and Jan (Samuria). The moderators are not paid and volunteer their time freely. They do not get any special insight into what Plusnet are doing or when your ticket is going to be answered.

This is not true for the Plusnet Usergroup boards. So i suggest that they are either removed and hosted by the Usergroup or that they are only moderated by elected members. If time is taken to draw rules up they should be kept to.

If not why cant we the non pug members at least see who their Mods are.  We keep getting links to items that are in the private section

Where will topics that are currently linked from the forum calendar to this forum go? (E.g. 28/04 Microsoft unblock Vista SP1)

Forum Bugs and Suggestions

Why not not "Community Site Bugs and Suggestions" or are you intending that problems with the rest of http://community.plus.net go elsewhere now?
Why not keep the sub-sub forum for resolved bugs? - that seems to work OK at present without causing confusion.

Re: Discussion Thread for new Community Forum Structure

Is the order you have listed the sub-forums in significant - if so I don't like it!
Will you be prohibiting posts in the Community forum and only allow posting in the tree sub-forums.
I agree with scrapping the separate Testimonials and Rants and Raves sub-forums as they were mis-used nearly as often as they were correctly used. But why not have a sub-forum "Service feedback" for any comments on the service as opposed to the Plusnet Product set?

Re: Discussion Thread for new Community Forum Structure

Do you not think Email warrants it's own sub-forum under support (especially as the Ironport forum is disappearing)?

Re: Discussion Thread for new Community Forum Structure

I'm not sure a separate wireless forum is really necessary as, ultimately, most wireless issues are related to hardware. Otherwise, I quite like the new structure.

Why are Mac and *nix to be joined together - there's little overlap, except that they are both not M$ Smiley

It said it includes WiFi, and it's within the general computing etc. parent board. My instinct is that there'll be too few topics about 'ham radio' to warrant having its own dedicated sub-forum, and that a sub-forum which includes discussions on 'WiFi' will confuse people when, for example, they need to ask about WiFi adaptors - as both the 'wireless' and 'hardware' sub-forums would seem suitable. Bearing in mind that this forum's search is useless, I think we need to make it as easy to find things as possible, and in this case, I feel that bungling all wireless-related stuff in to 'hardware' is the best way forward. After all, neither the current 'hardware' or 'wireless broadband' forums see particularly heavy use.
afoxisevil - I suspect it's because individual sub-forums for Mac and *unix would see very little use - even the current combined forum is rarely posted in.

The open source core of Mac OS X, Darwin, is derived from the FreeBSD code-base.
