superfast broadband for south devon

The government has just announced that South Devon will be getting faster broadband next year. Can anyone say what that means to existing Plusnet customers: an automatic uplift or the potential to buy a better service for an increased subscription?

Hi devonuser,
have you got a link to that article? If they mean that the BT network will be providing fibre then it's possible for us to provide faster speeds to enabled customers. Our fibre products are £10 per month on top of the usual subscription charge.

Here is the link  http://www.btplc.com/news/articles/showarticle.cfm?articleid={925c0e20-d3a7-45ec-834b-1ddf5b0d0595}
No mention of the government so perhaps I was jumping to conclusions that they were behind it.  They have been promising this sort of thing though, and of course good news for those who can afford it.

Hi devonuser,
from that it looks like BT are expanding their fibre network in the South West. Once the areas are enabled we'll be able to offer fibre. It's worth occasionally popping your phone number into the BT Availability Checker to see whether they add a proposed date for your cabinet.
