ps3 ping issue

I have recently got back into GT5p on the PS3 but i am only ever put in an online race with no more than 4 other players.(On the scrolling writing at the bottom of the screen it says people with a slow connection will be put in smaller races).
Other multi player games work well with no lag at all. As did GT5p a few months ago.
I have between a 3.5 and 4 meg connection with very low errors and interleave turned off .
If i do a tracert to bbc.co.uk over 30 hops the average is between 12-20ms but more recently the hops to the PN gateway have been over 250ms several times
Could someone please help as races get a big dull when its 1- on- 1 every time.

http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/ whats the vp capicity like at your exchange?
which product are you on and are u suree u havent gone over the usage allowence and having your speeds restricted

VP capacity is showing green,
I am on the Pro package for gamers and am nowhere near the 15gig limit .
Most of yesterday evening i had 4 or less cars on the grid out or 12 . So i tried a different PN gateway but it was no better.

This is from 65 hours of sync time .And there have been a lot of thunderstorms which i believe cause more than mormal errors as well.
Normally i get about 500 ES and 900 CRC errors in 24hours according to routerstats .

this is what errors look like on my line on fastpath. the upstream lies as each 15mins the upstream resets it self for some reason
i dont get any problems from theses amounts of errors

have u tried hoping gateways. the common theme on all your traceroutes is pte-gw2 is high on the pings.
i cant jump on the same gateway as you to test it out because am on the trial and locked to thn-ag2

Hi bigben,
It sounds like ASBO's suggestion would be well worth a try, you can find out what gateway you're on by visiting http://usertools.plus.net/@gateway - try dropping the connection and reconnecting after a couple of minutes (to make sure the exchange doesn't pick the disconnections up as a fault) then checking on the previous link to make sure you're on a different gateway to pte-gw2. See if that makes any difference to the ping times - it should do.

Thanks - it'll be interesting to see how the high and low pings are on different gateways and also how that ties in with the graphing at http://www.plus.net/support/network_performance/broadband_packets_drop.shtml

is your pc your doing the pings from running on wireless? if so u need to disable WZC to stop windows from spiking the ping every 30 seconds when it auto search for routers try this program for vista http://www.martin-majowski.de/wlanoptimizer/ and follow this for xp http://paininthetech.com/2005/10/25/disable-wireless-zero-configuration-in-windows-xp

Interesting about the zero config issue but the problem is effecting the PS3 with the laptop turned off plus i use the laptop on other routers.

i wasnt saying that disabling WZC would cure the ps3 problem just that when testing pings on a pc over wireless its best to disable this service to allow true accrute test results
