Upload Ip profile change + download change?

Hello, I spoke to online chat about a month ago and asked them change my upload from 448kbps to uncapped because my line is 21CN WBC enabled.

Nothing has changed and I am still only getting 448kbps. I was wondering if my IP profile needs to be updated (BT shows 0.45mbps upload ip profile) or did they just not action the change?

Another problem I have is that my actual download speed (speedtest.net) is around 8.5 Mbps which is about half of my sync rate. My router shows a max rate of 17300kbps. My IP profile is set at 15Mbps, so would I get a speed increase with a higher profile?

Estimated line speed:17Mb (This may vary between 10Mb and 19Mb)

Current line speed:15 Mb

 Uptime 28mins Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (kbps) 448 17154
Max Rate (kbps) 1228 17400
SNR Margin (dB) 24.1 6.1
Line Attenuation (dB) 15.5 28
Errors (pkts) 38 83

Thanks.

Edit: Added Errors (pkts) to line stats table

Re: Upload Ip profile change + download change?

What does the BT Wholesale speed test - further diagnostics report your IP profile to be?  It should be circa 15.35mbps.

Do you by chance have a fixed IP address?  If yes, what is the PN profile?  See the link below.

How is your line performing?

Please post your router stats; for PN TG582n and 2704n routers use the buttons below, for other routers look at the Kitz link.

Also run a BT Wholesale speed test (ideally using an Ethernet wired PC with the WiFi turned off) then run the further diagnostics and post the results here. DO NOT REBOOT the router!

Also find your CURRENT SPEED (PlusNet line profile) from the PlusNet user portal - you will need to log in.

Re: Upload Ip profile change + download change?

I am getting "The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider." when clicking on further diagnostics.

The first part of the test shows:

Download speed Mbps 7.72

Upload speed Mbps 0.00

Ping Latency ms 60.50

If i remember correctly (when it sometimes works) the ip profile down was ~15mbps.

I do not have a fixed IP.

Router is TP-Link - Archer VR600

0 days 8 hours 3 minutes (manul restart)
ADSL_2plus
Annex A/L/M
  Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (kbps) 448 17154
Max Rate (kbps) 1228 17312
SNR Margin (dB) 23.9 6.1
Line Attenuation (dB) 15.5 28
Errors (pkts) 666 1722

I do have the 2704n hub around still, I only just got this TP link less than a month ago. It seems to have made no difference in performance.

Re: Upload Ip profile change + download change?

BT speedtest worked

Download speed achieved during the test was - 7.97 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds  is 4 Mbps-21 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 15.13 Mbps

Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.29Mbps
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.45 Mbps

Current Rate (kbps) 448 17154
Max Rate (kbps) 1228 17448
SNR Margin (dB) 24.3 6.3
Line Attenuation (dB) 15.5 28
Errors (pkts) 1425 2723

Probably this, regarding the 448k upstream.

Re: Upload Ip profile change + download change?

What’s the PN Profile?

Are these tests over WiFi or Ethernet?

@Gandalf - I cannot recall the exact issue, but there have been occasions where BT Profiles have been inconsistent (one hidden?) which have caused issues similar to this. Any possibility that scenario is in play here?

Estimated line speed:17Mb (This may vary between 10Mb and 19Mb) - Checked on 2018-03-10 19:36:33

Current line speed:15 Mb

Over ethernet - The router is connected to the master socket.

Re: Upload Ip profile change + download change?

Perhaps get the upstream speed sorted out first, and after that's done, see if the downstream is still an issue.

Re: Upload Ip profile change + download change?

Fix

Hi there.

Nothing has changed and I am still only getting 448kbps. I was wondering if my IP profile needs to be updated (BT shows 0.45mbps upload ip profile) or did they just not action the change?

It looks like the support adviser tried to fix this by adjusting the DLM setting, but your service itself is provisioned on a capped upstream sync rate. I've placed an order to fix this and it should complete within 24-48 hours.

Can you let us know how your speeds look then?

Another problem I have is that my actual download speed (speedtest.net) is around 8.5 Mbps which is about half of my sync rate. My router shows a max rate of 17300kbps. My IP profile is set at 15Mbps, so would I get a speed increase with a higher profile?

Can't speed anything wrong this side. As you know from what you've found out, your router is in sync at 17152kbps and the profile on your account is 15000kbps which matches the IP profile of the line you're seeing.

When you ran the speedtest this morning were there any other devices connected to your router over WiFi or Ethernet using the bandwidth?

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Re: Upload Ip profile change + download change?

Speeds have gone up across the board! Bt speed test does not show an increase but speedtest.net shows 14.5mbps down and 0.74mbps up.

Old speedOld speedNew speedNew speed

BT below:

Download speed Mbps 7.89

Upload speed Mbps 0.73

Ping Latency ms 45.00

Download speedachieved during the test was - 7.89 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4 Mbps-21 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 15.12 Mbps

Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.73Mbps
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.83 Mbps

Connected
0 days 9 hours 33 minutes
 ADSL_2plus
 Annex A/L/M
  Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (kbps) 960 17146
Max Rate (kbps) 1220 17488
SNR Margin (dB) 6.4 6.2
Line Attenuation (dB) 15.5 28
Errors (pkts) 6955 11216

When you ran the speedtest this morning were there any other devices connected to your router over WiFi or Ethernet using the bandwidth?

Nope. It's strange that having the upload uncapped has changed download speed, unless something else was changed at the same time.

Thank you all for your help! Smiley

Re: Upload Ip profile change + download change?

BT speed tests - which browser were you using? There are reports suggesting that some browsers do not behave correctly with that speed test as they once did. MS Explorer and Edge have always worked without problems.

I am using firefox, I just did a test with Edge and I got better results.

Download speed Mbps 13.05

Upload speed Mbps 0.82

Ping Latency ms 35.13

TY.
