To try tweaking MTU and RWIN settings I've looked at the Tweak tester on dslreports.com but am unsure exactly what figure to put in for the speed when it's not fixed but advertised as "up to" 8meg.
On my line I've never, so far, hit more than a synch of 3000kbps max and BT is forever upping and downing my profile. It typically varies from 2000 down to a current low of 1250kbps.
To get suggested tweak settings am I supposed to use the theoretically possible max of 8000, or use my current BT profile (and alter it again when that changes), or some average in between?
Thanks,

Hi Sue,
You'll need to use your *current* sync speed to the nearest 1000Kbps.
On a 2500Kbps sync rate, I'd use an MTU of 1430 and an rWin of 41700.

Ok, got it. Thanks.
That presumably means I could tweak again to see if makes any difference if I do get better synchs again later on. You never know, stranger things have happened!
