Really Bad Tonight

dunno whats going on but i have terrible connection tonite all web pages slow as a tortoise , taken 20 mins to download 30mb file   cant connect to game servers BF3 , cant connect to TS3 server
nowt on exchange checker, bt speedtest shows a 50% drop in speed  
exchange is undercliffe normally get 14 - 16 down

garbage pings for me tonight 199ms from pingtest speed is also down to about 2.5mb from usual 6mb.

PS YES am in test socket , not wifi , only 1 pc and 1 phone
lol just checked i am slower than 96% of the uk

Hey, sorry to hear that your connection wasn't great last night, Tuesday is typically our busiest day of the week and whilst we still have plenty of spare capacity (a few Gbps) some end points were busier than others and may have seen some latency. Next time you get issues like this, power cycle your router and you should connect to a different gateway, you can check from here: http://usertools.plus.net/@gateway/ . If the issues disappear when connected to a different gateway then flag it up and we can pick it up from there.
N.B. Your issues may not have had anything to do with your gateway and power cycling your router will clear myriad things which could be causing problems!

I had the same issue for around 3 hours last night - down to as low as 5Mb on FTTC where I usually see anywhere between 22Mb & 27.5Mb.
I didn't change gateways & it was back to normal by 11:30 p.m. (Gateway ptn-ag01)

Cheers for the reply Ben , but i have connection problems most nights but last night was the worst .
i regulary have to restart my router to clear thousands of errors    which as you say helps for a while , also have done hard reset of router  & reset to defaults but the evening connection problems always returns  , have swapped the router several times .
its not my PC i did a full reinstall a few weeks back , i run Hijack this regular , malwarebytes & C cleaner , i use windows firwall and security essentials .
and dont have extra autoruns and background progs running , i check with MSCONFIG and widows services what i have running and dissable what i dont need.
have asked several times & had my line checked by PN but nowt was found all ok , but obviously there must be a problem somwhere , i do realize intermittant problems are the worst to find , if i run wireshark its ok but if its not running ya can be sure i will have problems.
and also its hard to upload a Pcap file , which is large coz i had it running several hours .
PS i must have nocturnal Gremlins

I was referring to the 4.5Mb speed test image on that post, in comparison to the near 20Mb one on his previous!

how do i find which gateway ,, found it 
connectivity to Gateway (195.166.130.91)
and  as i have said last night was worst ! BUT i get it most nights !!!

@rongtw that's pcl-ag03 (you can check easily from http://usertools.plus.net/@gateway/ ) which is one of the busier gateways. If you reboot your router you should get onto a different one which should experience lower latency. After that you'll be able to tell whether or not it's a gateway issue, or something specific to your line.
Current list of busier gateways on WBC (21CN):

* The asterisk'd gateways actually have two different end points, only one of each has higher-than-average users. I don't think you'll be able to tell which one you're on so don't panic if you find yourself connected, test your connection and leave it if it's OK.
N.B. This list is correct as of now and will change so please don't pay any attention to it tomorrow
N.B.2. We have over 30 end points so this still only represents a small part of our network that is out of balance
N.B.3. Don't keep power cycling your router unless you want DLM to kick in. Once or twice is fine but any more than that and you really want to drop the PPP connection from the router interface and re-start it so you don't re-sync.
