Re: DNS weirdness

Not fully convinced that this is a Plusnet DNS problem?  The difference in the tracert indicates that sometimes it terminates at the London facility that theplanet.com runs and sometimes it terminates in one of their US Datacentres!
Has the site been fully propagated to the network yet?  A question for theplanet.com
doing an nslookup on the ip address does not resolve to the site name - just the static address bb.b4.344a.static.theplanet.com
Have you checked with the Webhost on your problems?

Many thanks

That is a bit messy as Speedtouch, as usual try to stop you altering things
You need to telnet into the router
See the attached picture
Once in type the following - after each line hit enter
dns server route add dns=208.67.222.222 metric=1 intf=Internet
dns server route add dns=208.67.220.220 metric=1 intf=Internet
This adds those two DNS servers and gives them a higher priority than the automatic ones

Re: DNS weirdness

Maurice - it seems to work every time using OpenDNS and there are other similar problems popping up on the forums - worth a try anyway

Re: DNS weirdness

I',ll try the Belkin OpenDNS route but it seems things are going off on a tangent here.
I have no idea who planet.com are to check anything with them.
The host company for the ecommerce site servers say they are working fien and have no problems - and they can see it also...as can I from my locallibrary.
So I |DO think it is something to do with Plusnet -  and a greta shame they do not rtspond very quickly/aptly to my support messages.

Re: DNS weirdness

Stupid question I know...but how do I determine the DNS number instead of name to  go through OpenDNS for:
www.dimplesdaisysanddandelions.co.uk
www.dimplesdaisysanddandelions.co.uk/index.php
www.dimplesdaisysanddandelions.co.uk/admin?
...or maybe just part company with Plus Net.....

Re: DNS weirdness

Added the OpenDNS entries to my Speedtouch and re-booted.
Open DNS site confirms I am using OpenDNS.
I couldn't open some of their pages before and still can't but perhaps some progress.
Plusnet's Portal ie Log In page still times out.
I'm sure whatever the problem is it will be sorted in the near future.

@Nocturne - in your case I think you may have a different problem.

C:\Users\James>tracert plus.net
Tracing route to plus.net [212.159.9.2]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

Re: DNS weirdness

Years since I did some of this stuff but hopefully I got it right

Edit: Don't waste too much time on this Jim.
Assuming it gets sorted in a few days I'll survive

Re: DNS weirdness

Works for me when I put the missing 'd' in the URL  Crazy
nslookup works both on the sitename and from the resulting IP address
nslookup www.dimplesdaisysanddandelions.co.uk   results in an  IP address of  74.52.180.187

Re: DNS weirdness

So...mixed results about accessing the site.....I presume everyone is going through Plus.net to try and access it?
If so then surely doesn't that indicate the problem lies squarely with them??, and if so they should own up and confirm what they are doing to resolve the issue.
