Ofcom to do something about Openreach, eventually.

It looks like Openreach may be bought into line, just ashame it'll take a while.
[quote=http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/07/03/ofcom_proposes_new_measures_for_wholesale_broadband_market/]
Ofcom said it would push for BT to meet performance standards for new line installations and fault repairs, after it had received gripes from operators about the length of time it has taken the telecom giant's Openreach engineers to complete work at their customers' premises.
If BT fails to meet those standards then it would be slapped with sanctions, Ofcom warned. The regulator also plans to keep a closer eye on Openreach - which is headed up by Liv Garfield - by monitoring its wholesale service to understand how well the company is performing.
Ofcom's consultation process - which seeks views from ISPs and others on its plans for the period from April 2014 to March 2017 - will be open until 25 September. The watchdog said it would publish its conclusions next spring.

This also looks good..

Ofcom is proposing to cut the switching fee (£50) to between £10 and £15 and, where an existing superfast customer switches, to reduce the minimum length of the wholesale contract between BT and the new supplier from a year to one month

Quite how in practice ofcom will be able to properly monitor Openreach,via BT Wholesale is  a completely different matter & I don't see any of the bigger ISP's  in particular TT and BT  or SKY starting to sell monthly contracts for FTTC , It will be good news for some of the smaller niche ISP resellers ,
As for the current £66.00 FTTC migration fee ,when switching between FTTC providers  Yes this should be scrapped as all the physical work was done when FTTC was installed initially,  & the customer has the BT modem ,So apart from  maybe a  DLM reset @ the cab by an engineer , Which had BT openreach thought about it,This would of been something that could of been done remotely, from day one

They need to deal with failed appointments as a high priority - why should we pay them if we are not in, but, not vice versa?

I'm pleased to hear anything which tried to make BT Openreach provide a reasonable service.
It's long overdue.
