No DSL light on touter again!!!

This may help someone.
D-link router didn't work
Speedtouch router didn't work.
Friends old netgear router worked .
New Netgear 834 router worked only intermittently.
In desperation I bypassed the BT RF filter.
In a previous life this filter caused no end of trouble with DSL until replaced by BT many years ago.
Now WOW ! everything 'goes lke a train'.
Slight radio 2 on phone now but at trivial level.

Re: No DSL light on touter again!!!

? Huh
Is your phone plugged into a filter? If not, what happens to your sync when you use the phone? Sounds like you've got a faulty or cheap filter.

Re: No DSL light on touter again!!!

Phone is plugged into a DSL filter
The filter I bypassed is the one in the BT phone line BEFORE the master socket which is supposed to remove radio interference from the phone, NOT the DSL filter

Re: No DSL light on touter again!!!

The old ADSL killer was the RF2 filter used by BT to remove interference to the phone instrument by a strong local long or medium wave AM radio station.  When ADSL came along BT started using the RF3 which had much less effect on ADSL.
A couple of people on PlusNet had problems some time ago here and here.
Also there has been some discussion on Kitz's forum here.
The dramatic effect on ADSL can be seen in this post on DSL ZoneUK.

Re: No DSL light on touter again!!!

My filter was supposed to be an RF3 !!
I have only bypassed it in case I need BT service in which case I'll put it back in circuit again.
Still doesn't explain why old USB modem wasn't affected though does it ?
My neighbour (on whose line my modems checked out perfectly) doesn't have the filter, and since my problems I discovered  another friend had similar trouble with 'Talk Talk' and paid out for replacement modem and still ended up having to remove RF filter.
