One advantage from a new TG582n would be support for wireless 'n' if your computer supports that. However some users find its wireless range disappointing.
Leaving your router on 24x7 as I believe you do is likely to prolong its life. However asking for a new router would provide an alternative to try (I'm assuming the old one would fulfil that role) if you had connection problems involving a fault investigation.
Is an upgrade from Extra to Unlimited of interest if you are prepared to commit to a 12 month contract? Should be £1 per month saving in Market 1, £2 per month saving in Markets 2 & 3. (Sadly that won't give you higher speeds.)

Around 1Mbit better than:
Billion 7800
DG834v4
A vigor 120 modem I tried came closest but was still slightly down.
That's on a line synching around 19Mbit
The 582n also gives me the best upstream sync, 1240Kbps as opposed to around 1170Kbps.
I don't use it's wifi or use it as a router though.

The performance was so poor that I replaced it (WR1043ND) after a few days.

I have heard the type B is better but does it still have the security issue of 2 ports being open to the internet?
