Netgear DG834 with dropped connections

I just noticed someone post about having a version of the above adsl router modem and having dropped connections and I have two netgear DG834GT models and get dropped connections with both.
I'm not saying our routers are at fault but I did a search on the internet for BT IP profile problems and the DG834 family came up pretty regularly. I'm wondering if there's something about it that it sometimes syncs badly and then causes low IP profiles or something. It could just be that it's a popular model and therefore there are more problems with it but seems to be an odd coincidence.

Re: Netgear DG834 with dropped connections

The dropped connections referred to is loss of PPP session while not losing sync with the exchange.
Is this what you are seeing

Re: Netgear DG834 with dropped connections

I don't know what's happening in my situation. The poor sync speeds are either immediately I switch on or when I'm not actually using the internet. I never really see what happens.

Re: Netgear DG834 with dropped connections

If you have poor sync speeds this isn't the same problem.
As a first step can you post your router stats - noise margin, attenuation and speeds.
Next can you download and install Routerstats as this will allow much better fault diagnosis http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files.htm

Re: Netgear DG834 with dropped connections

Yeah, I had been running routerstats and then my harddrive exploded.
I think I may have posted this in the wrong place. I wasn't really trying to diagnose my problem, since that is elsewhere. I was more trying to find out whether there are other Netgear DG834 users with problems since I seem to see a lot of IP profile issues concerning that particular family of routers.

and it turns out right now that those are the top 3 threads in this forum other than this one because of my previous post.

Re: Netgear DG834 with dropped connections

Sorry - misunderstood the question.
I have a DG834G with the Broadcom chipset and it absolutely rock solid at 4000kbps with a noise margin varying from 6dB to 3.7dB over 24 hours

I'd be surprised if there weren't people with working ones actually...

Re: Netgear DG834 with dropped connections

I have a Netgear DG834PN.  The Connection Status display tells me I have been connected for 367 hours, so no problems there!
Oh and sync speed 6880 kbps, attenuation 6.x dB.  I am not close to the exchange so everything is really good for me (at present).

Re: Netgear DG834 with dropped connections

The DG family is extremely common, so it's not a surprise that you've found some people with problems.
The more people there are that use them, the more people you'll find with a fault.

^^^ Yeah, what he said  Cool
Is DG834PN a Plusnet messed about with one? I've got an ex-sky one and had been using that one as my main. Not sure if that is different hardware-wise or not but I'm not using my original Netgear branded one and still having issues (although not right this minute touch wood)

We don't lock routers Smiley
We also don't and never have, supplied Netgear Routers.

Ah, I just wondered because of the PN in the name.
